The pledge applies across North America, covering operators participating in California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard, Oregon’s Clean Fuel Program, Washington’s Clean Fuel Standard, British Columbia’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard, and the Canadian federal Clean Fuel Regulation.

Carbon credit programs in North America are designed to fund the buildout of EV charging infrastructure, with public credit revenue required to be reinvested in the network. In practice, many software platforms in the market retain data ownership rights to chargers running on their backends and then claim the credits on behalf of operators. Monta operators retain full data ownership and full claim to the credits generated by their chargers.

The commitment makes three things explicit for any operator running chargers on Monta’s backend:

Data ownership: Monta assigns data rights to operators as required for the purpose of carbon credit reporting purposes.

Choice of path: Operators select the carbon credit reporting pathway that fits their business. No lock-in to any single solution through Monta, with further partnerships planned to make reporting as easy as possible.

Reinvestment: Public credit revenue flows back to the operators who built the chargers, where regulators intended it to land.

Robert Glæsel, General Manager of Monta North America, said: “Carbon credit programs exist to fund the buildout of EV charging infrastructure. The operators who put the chargers in the ground should be the ones who benefit. Monta commits, in writing, to staying out of that revenue line. The data, the credits, and the proceeds belong to the operator.”

A companion third-party white paper, authored by Canadian EV charging consultancy MAX Charge EV, breaks down how Monta’s commitment applies under the Canadian Clean Fuel Regulation and British Columbia Low Carbon Fuel Standard. Canadian operators can read the paper here and register for the live webinar on this topic here.

About MAX Charge EV

MAX Charge EV is a Canadian consultancy that helps Charge Point Operators, fleet operators, and site hosts navigate the Clean Fuel Regulations and the BC Low Carbon Fuel Standard. We work with operators across the country to register correctly, report accurately, sell credits at favourable prices, reinvest in compliance with federal rules, and prepare for annual verification and reinvestment audits. We engage as a Section 21 aggregator when a turnkey solution fits the client, and as a consultant when the client prefers to retain their own ECCC registration and build internal expertise. Either way, the goal is the same: maximum transparency, maximum revenue.

For more information, visit maxcharge.ca

Monta publicly commits to assigning carbon credit data ownership rights to operators, across every carbon credit program in North America.
