{"id":1792,"date":"2023-07-10T11:23:33","date_gmt":"2023-07-10T10:23:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/monta.com\/uk\/?post_type=help-center&#038;p=1792"},"modified":"2025-03-28T16:27:11","modified_gmt":"2025-03-28T15:27:11","slug":"using-public-charge-points","status":"publish","type":"help-center","link":"https:\/\/monta.com\/en\/help-center\/using-public-charge-points\/","title":{"rendered":"Using Public charge points"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This guide is focused on the different methods for starting a charge on a Public charge point. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For troubleshooting advice, <a href=\"https:\/\/monta.com\/uk\/help-center\/public-charge-point-troubleshooting\/\" data-type=\"help-center\" data-id=\"3113\">read here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Start a charge via Monta Charge<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are already a Monta user, you can easily start a charge from <strong>Monta Charge<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open the Monta Map and select a charging site<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click to open a charge point<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select or add your car (optional)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on <strong>Go to payment<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on <strong>+ Select payment method<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select an available payment method or add a bank card<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Slide to start charging<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"storylane\">\n        <script src=\"https:\/\/js.storylane.io\/js\/v1\/storylane.js\"><\/script>\n        <div class=\"sl-embed\" style=\"position:relative;padding-bottom:calc(216.41% + 2px);width:100%;height:0;transform:scale(1)\">\n          <iframe class=\"sl-demo\" src=\"https:\/\/app.storylane.io\/demo\/kewsbdmvsvc4\" name=\"sl-embed\" title=\"Interactive product demo\" aria-label=\"Interactive product demo\" allow=\"fullscreen; camera; microphone\" style=\"position:absolute;top:0;left:0;width:100%;height:100%;border:none;\"><\/iframe>\n        <\/div>\n      <\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Start a charge via QR sticker<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you see a QR sticker on the charge point you can start a charge whether or not you have a Monta account! Here is how you do that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Scan the QR sticker with your phone camera or NFC\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you have the Monta app, it will open on your phone (see step above)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add your email and read and accept Terms of Use<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click on <strong>Continue to payment<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select from the payment methods available on your device or add a bank card<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Swipe to start charging <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"storylane\">\n        <script src=\"https:\/\/js.storylane.io\/js\/v1\/storylane.js\"><\/script>\n        <div class=\"sl-embed\" style=\"position:relative;padding-bottom:calc(216.41% + 2px);width:100%;height:0;transform:scale(1)\">\n          <iframe class=\"sl-demo\" src=\"https:\/\/app.storylane.io\/demo\/tvzuvec0nity\" name=\"sl-embed\" title=\"Interactive product demo\" aria-label=\"Interactive product demo\" allow=\"fullscreen; camera; microphone\" style=\"position:absolute;top:0;left:0;width:100%;height:100%;border:none;\"><\/iframe>\n        <\/div>\n      <\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Start a charge via RFID\/ Charge key<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can attach a charge key (RFID) to your Monta Wallet and start charging with a single tap!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pair a charge key to your <a href=\"https:\/\/monta.com\/uk\/help-center\/add-charge-keys-monta\/\" data-type=\"help-center\" data-id=\"2423\">Monta Wallet<\/a> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure you have enough funds for charging in the <a href=\"https:\/\/monta.com\/uk\/help-center\/set-up-personal-wallet\/\" data-type=\"help-center\" data-id=\"2383\">Monta Wallet<\/a> <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Plug in your car and tap the RFID of the charge point \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Please note that not all charge points support RFID cards<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Note: We&#8217;ve made an update on how payments work when using RFID charge keys for a more secure payment process. <\/em>Now, before starting a charge:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the system will go through a <strong>pre-authorization process<\/strong> and check if you have enough <strong>balance<\/strong> in your Monta <strong>wallet<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If not, it will <strong>automatically add funds<\/strong> from the<strong> card linked<\/strong> to your account. This helps make sure your payment goes through smoothly. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If there is an issue:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You\u2019ll receive a <strong>push notification and email<\/strong> explaining what went wrong.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We\u2019ll <strong>automatically remove the card<\/strong> from your account.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You\u2019ll simply need to <strong>add the card again<\/strong> to continue using it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"974\" height=\"412\" src=\"https:\/\/monta.com\/app\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2023\/07\/2025-03-28_16-13-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20912\" style=\"width:497px;height:auto\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/monta.com\/app\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2023\/07\/2025-03-28_16-13-1.png 974w, https:\/\/monta.com\/app\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2023\/07\/2025-03-28_16-13-1-300x127.png 300w, https:\/\/monta.com\/app\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2023\/07\/2025-03-28_16-13-1-150x63.png 150w, https:\/\/monta.com\/app\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2023\/07\/2025-03-28_16-13-1-768x325.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 974px) 100vw, 974px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Example of the push notification<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The preauthorization process <strong>reserves a set amount of money<\/strong> at the start of a charge, ensuring all payments remain secure and approved. If you see a reserved amount, it\u2019s just temporary and will be returned within 7-10 business days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Start a charge via Payter terminal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you see that there is an available payment terminal at the site, you can use to start a charge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Plug in your car to the charge point<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Look at the Payter screen to confirm it is the right charge point<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Swipe a bank card to pay and start charging immediately<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>You will not automatically receive a receipt when charging via a payment terminal.
