How do I set up and use smart charging?
Explains what smart charging is, the tools available (SmartCharge, charging rules, solar charging, cost tracking), and how to enable and use them in Monta Charge.
Smart charging adjusts when and how fast your EV charges so you save money and reduce grid impact.
Smart charging tools in Monta
SmartCharge
SmartCharge schedules charging to use the cheapest electricity hours. Set a departure time and target battery level — Monta handles the rest. Requires a car integration so Monta can read your battery level.
Charging rules
Charging rules define when your charge point is active. Set rules based on time of day, day of week, or electricity price. For example: charge only between 23:00 and 06:00, or only when electricity costs less than 0.15 €/kWh.
Solar charging
Solar charging uses surplus energy from your solar panels to charge your EV. Requires a compatible solar inverter or smart meter integration.
Electricity cost tracking
Connect your electricity tariff to Monta to see the cost of each session and track your spending over time.
Which tool should I use?
- Use SmartCharge if you want automatic scheduling based on price and a departure time.
- Use Charging rules if you want fixed time or price conditions.
- Use Solar charging if you have solar panels.
- Use Cost tracking if you want visibility into your electricity spend.
How do I enable smart charging on my charge point?
- Tap the settings icon on your charge point.
- Select Access settings and tap Private.
- Toggle on Enable smart charging.
- Save the changes.
How do I start a smart charge?
- Open the charge point.
- Select the Smart charging tab.
- Select the car you are charging (optional — helps Monta know your battery capacity and current state of charge if you have a car integration).
- Set when you want the car ready for pickup.
- Optionally set a Delayed start to delay charging until after a certain time.
- Adjust your charging preference by balancing between low electricity cost, reduced COâ‚‚ emissions, and use of renewable energy.

How do I set up electricity cost?
