How do I add and configure EVSEs for energy management in the Hub?

Help Center / Energy, Control, & Optimization / Energy Management Portal / How do I add and configure EVSEs for energy management in the Hub?

For: Operators (CPOs) and installers who add EVSEs to an energy-managed location or change their settings

This article lists the steps to add, configure, move, and remove EVSEs (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) at an energy-managed location in the Hub.

This article does not explain the concepts. For what phase setup, minimum current, and Meter only mean, see How does energy management work in the Hub? If an EVSE cannot be added, see How do I troubleshoot energy management in the Hub?

Where do I manage EVSEs?

Go to CPO / Network → Energy management → Locations. Open the location, then select Setup → EVSEs.

The table shows these columns: EVSE, Node, Phase setup, Load management, Min. power, Max. power, Min. current, and Max. current.

  • Phase setup shows codes such as AC_123.

  • Load management shows Active or Meter only. This column is hidden by default. Turn it on in the column options.

How do I add one EVSE?

  1. Go to Setup → EVSEs and select Add EVSE. The Hub adds the EVSE under the top node.

  2. To add the EVSE under a different node, go to Topology → Tree view. Select ⋮ on the node, then select Add EVSE.

  3. In step 1, Select EVSE, search with Search by name, serial, or identifier. The search starts in the account of the location. To include the main operator and its sub-operators, select Search all accounts.

  4. Select the EVSE.

  5. In step 2, Configure EVSE, set the phase setup and the limits. The fields are the same as in Edit EVSE below.

  6. Confirm to attach the EVSE.

An EVSE that cannot be selected shows the reason. For example, "No serial number, so it can't be attached" or "Attached to" and the name of another location.

Can I add EVSEs that belong to a private account?

Yes. EVSEs owned by a private account behave the same way as EVSEs owned by an enterprise account. Energy management treats them identically.

In this article, "private" means that the EVSE is owned by a private account. It does not mean the Private access type of an EVSE.

To add an EVSE that belongs to a private account, the EVSE must meet two requirements:

  • The EVSE is operated by you, not by Monta, so that you have access to it.

  • The EVSE model supports load management.

Add the EVSE with the steps in How do I add one EVSE? If the EVSE does not show in the search, select Search all accounts.

Adding the EVSE to a location does not change who owns it. Ownership, access, visibility, and billing stay with the private account.

How do I add several EVSEs at once?

  1. Start the same way as for one EVSE: select Add EVSE in Setup → EVSEs, or in Topology → Tree view on a node.

  2. Tick the EVSEs you want. To tick all EVSEs on the page, select Select all on this page.

  3. Select Attach and the number of EVSEs, for example Attach 3 EVSEs.

The Hub attaches several EVSEs with default settings and skips step 2. New AC EVSEs start with the phase setup AC 1-2-3. Check the phase setup of each EVSE afterwards.

How do I configure an EVSE?

  1. Go to Setup → EVSEs. On the EVSE row, select ⋮ → Edit EVSE. You can also select ⋮ on the EVSE in Topology.

  2. Change the settings that apply. See the list below.

  3. Select Save changes.

  • Phase setup: pick the option that matches how the EVSE is wired. The options are AC 1-2-3, AC 2-3-1, AC 3-1-2, AC Phase 1, AC Phase 2, AC Phase 3, and DC 1-2-3. New AC EVSEs start at AC 1-2-3. New DC EVSEs start at DC 1-2-3.

  • Current limits: set Min. current and Max. current in amperes (A). Max. current is optional. If you leave it blank, the Hub derives it from Max. power.

  • Power limits: set Min. power and Max. power in kilowatts (kW). Max. power is required.

  • Allow zero current/power: turn this on to allow the EVSE to be set to zero. This switch is only in Edit EVSE. It is not a column in the table.

  • Disable load management: turn this on if the EVSE sends meter values but cannot be controlled. The Load management column then shows Meter only.

EVSE-specific charge intents are not set here. Set them under Setup → Charge intents.

How do I move EVSEs to another node?

To move one EVSE:

  1. Go to Setup → EVSEs. On the EVSE row, select ⋮ → Move to node.

  2. Under Select a node, pick the node.

  3. Select Move.

To move several EVSEs: select the rows, then select Move to node. Pick the node and select Move. The Hub skips EVSEs that are already on that node.

To move an EVSE by dragging: go to Topology → Tree view and drag the EVSE onto another node.

How do I remove an EVSE?

  1. Go to Setup → EVSEs. On the EVSE row, select ⋮ → Delete EVSE. You can also select ⋮ on the EVSE in Topology.

  2. Select Delete EVSE to confirm.

The Hub shows: "Detaching this EVSE removes it from the energy location's load balancing. This action cannot be undone." The EVSE stays in the Hub. Energy management stops controlling it.

How do I see what energy management gives an EVSE?

Open the location overview. The EVSEs Overview cards show the charging state, state of charge, and target of each EVSE. The value after "alloc", for example "alloc 16 A", is the current that energy management gives the EVSE now.
