How do I set up charge intents for energy management in the Hub?

Help Center / Energy, Control, & Optimization / Energy Management Portal / How do I set up charge intents for energy management in the Hub?

For: Operators (CPOs) and installers who set how charges behave at an energy-managed location

This article lists the steps to set and change charge intents at an energy-managed location in the Hub. It does not explain the concepts. For what Charge now, Price optimize, targets, priority and the order of sources mean, see How does energy management work in the Hub? If an intent does not seem to apply, see How do I troubleshoot energy management in the Hub?

How do I open the charge intents of a location?

  1. Go to CPO / Network → Energy management → Locations.

  2. Open the location.

  3. Go to Setup → Charge intents.

The Location default card is at the top. Below it, a line shows the order of the sources: The first matching source is applied: RFID › User › Account › Vehicle › EVSE › Location default.

The table has these columns: Source, Type, Target, Priority and Schedules. Schedules shows the number of schedule slots. The filter pills All, RFID, User, Account, Vehicle and EVSE each show a count. Select a pill to show only that source.

The steps below start from this page.

How do I edit the location default?

The location default is used when no other charge intent matches.

  1. On the Location default card, select Edit default.

  2. Set the fields as described in the next section. The location default has no Scope field.

  3. Select Save intent.

How do I add a charge intent?

  1. Select New. The Add charge intent dialog opens.

  2. In Scope, select RFID, User, Account, Vehicle or EVSE.

  3. Select the key the intent applies to. The key depends on the scope:

    • RFID: Pick a charge key, or type its UID. RFID stands for Radio-Frequency Identification.

    • User: Search with Search by name, email or user ID. Or select Use user ID {id} for a user ID you typed.

    • Account: Pick the account.

    • Vehicle: Enter the Vehicle ID tag. This is the unique identifier the vehicle reports, for example a VIN or an Autocharge ID tag. Then enter the Battery capacity (kWh). Both are required.

    • EVSE: Open EVSE connector and select a connector. The list shows the identity and the connector, as identity:connector.

  4. For the RFID, User and Vehicle scopes, check the Account filter above the picker. It starts on the account of the location. Clear it to search every account of your operator. Keys that already have an intent at this location show Already added.

  5. In Charge intent type, select Charge now or Price optimize. Price optimize also needs a Departure time.

  6. Enter a Target SoC, a Target kWh, or both. Set at least one. Charging continues until the target is reached. SoC stands for State of Charge.

  7. Enter the Priority, from 0 to 10. A higher number means a higher priority.

  8. Select Save intent.

Price optimize needs an Electricity price area on the location. To set it, go to Setup → General. For why it is needed, see How does energy management work in the Hub?

In the table, an EVSE intent shows the name of the EVSE. The identity and the connector are below the name.

How do I edit or delete a charge intent?

  1. On the row of the intent, select ⋮.

  2. Select Edit, Edit schedules or Delete.

In the Edit charge intent dialog, Scope and the key are locked. To change the key, delete the intent and add a new one.

When you select Delete, the Hub asks Delete charge intent? The intent is removed. This cannot be undone.

How do I delete several charge intents at once?

  1. In the table, select the rows of the intents.

  2. Select Delete.

  3. Confirm Delete # charge intents? This cannot be undone.

How do I set a schedule on a charge intent?

A schedule overrides the intent in the time windows you set.

  1. Open the schedule dialog:

    • For one intent, select ⋮ → Edit schedules on its row.

    • For the location default, select Edit schedules on the Location default card.

  2. In Repeat, select Every day or Custom week.

    • Every day uses one day plan for all days. Select Add time slot. Set the start, the end, the charge type and a target. A Price optimize slot also needs a departure time.

    • Custom week sets a start day and an end day for each slot. Select Add rule, or click or drag on the timeline to create a rule. A Price optimize slot needs a Departure day and a departure time.

  3. Select Save schedule.

A slot that ends before it starts runs overnight. For example, 22:00 to 06:00 ends at 06:00 the next morning.

If you switch Custom week to Every day and the days differ, the Hub asks Simplify this schedule. The slots of Monday are then used for every day.

To clear a schedule, select Remove all, then select Save schedule. Remove all appears only when a schedule exists. The Hub asks you to confirm Remove schedules.

How do I set the same schedule on several charge intents?

  1. In the table, select the rows of the intents.

  2. Select Set schedule. The dialog is titled Schedules for # intents.

  3. Add the slots as described in the section above.

  4. To add or remove intents, use Apply to. You can include the location default.

  5. Select Save schedule.

If some of the intents have a different schedule, the dialog shows Saving replaces them. Each intent keeps its own type, target and priority. Only its schedule is replaced.

How do I export or import a schedule?

Use these buttons in the schedule dialog.

  1. Select Export to download the schedule as intent-schedule.json.

  2. Select Import to load a .json file into the dialog.

  3. Select Save schedule. Nothing is saved until you do.

If the dialog has unsaved changes, the Hub asks before it replaces them. A file that is not a schedule shows This file isn't a schedule. A file with overlapping slots shows This schedule file has overlapping time slots. You cannot import a node power limit schedule file here.

What if a driver sets a smart charge in the Monta app?

The Hub ignores a smart charge that a driver sets in the Monta app. The only exception is the setting Allow app smart charge override. When it is on, the smart charge of the driver wins over every charge intent.

To change the setting:

  1. Open the location.

  2. Go to Setup → General → Advanced settings.

  3. Turn Allow app smart charge override on or off.

  4. Save your changes.

For how drivers set a smart charge, see How do I set up and use smart charging?
