For: Operators (CPOs) and installers setting up energy management for a location for the first time
This article lists the steps to set up energy management for a location in the Hub. A location stays inactive until you activate it in the last step. Until then, energy management does not control your EVSEs (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment).
This article does not explain the concepts. For what fuse limit, buffer, phase setup, and charge intents mean, see How does energy management work in the Hub? If something does not work, see How do I troubleshoot energy management in the Hub?
What do I need before I start?
Access to Energy management in the CPO / Network menu. If Energy management is not in your menu, or Enable energy management is missing, your user may not have operator access. Contact Monta.
Charging stations connected to Monta with OCPP (Open Charge Point Protocol). EVSEs without OCPP are not added automatically.
The fuse rating of the grid connection, and any power limit from your grid contract.
How do I set up energy management for a new location?
Go to CPO / Network → Energy management → Locations to see all locations. Follow these steps in order.
-
Turn on energy management. Open the location's own page and select the Energy management tab. It says "Energy management not enabled". Select Enable energy management, then select Enable.
Hub adds the EVSEs of the location that have an OCPP connection under the top node.
EVSEs without OCPP are skipped. You can see them under Linked location in step 2.
-
Check the location configuration. Select Open energy management. Go to Setup → Location configuration.
Check Grid connection type and Timezone.
If Linked location shows differences, select Sync.
Select Save.
-
Set the limits on the top node. Go to Setup → Nodes. In the row marked Root, select ⋮ → Edit node.
Set the limits that apply: Set fuse limit, Set amp buffer, and Set power limit.
If the node has a meter, also set Max expected residual.
To add a sub-node for a distribution board, select New, or select ⋮ → Add node on a node row. Set its limits the same way.
-
Add the EVSEs and place them on the right nodes. Go to Setup → EVSEs.
Select Add EVSE to add any EVSE that is missing.
For each EVSE, select ⋮ → Move to node and pick the node it is connected to.
Check the phase setup of each EVSE. Select ⋮ → Edit EVSE and check Phase setup. Check single-phase EVSEs and three-phase EVSEs wired with phase rotation with extra care.
Optional: set the electricity price area. Do this if you want price-optimized charging. Go to Setup → Location configuration → Electricity price area and pick the area, for example DK1.
Optional: set the default charge intent. Go to Setup → Charge intents. On the Site default card, select Edit default.
-
Activate the location. Go to Setup → Location configuration → Danger zone → Location active status. Confirm Activate.
The badge in the header changes from Inactive to Active.
Energy management now sends limits to the EVSEs.
What if my location was moved from the old Hub load management?
A location moved from an old load management group is already in the Locations list. It is inactive, and the old group keeps running until you activate the location.
Do not change anything first. The Hub rejects edits to an inactive location. Activation fails with a "Drift detected…" message if the old load management group was changed after the move, for example if a meter was added. In that case, contact Monta.
Check that no EVSE is in another old group. If an EVSE is also in another old load balancing group, remove it from that group first. You find the old load balancing on the location's own page under Settings → Load balancing → Open portal. Activation fails while an EVSE is still in another group.
Activate the location. Follow step 8 above. Activating the location switches the old group off automatically.
Set the electricity price area. Follow step 6 above.
Check the meter. If the Comment says "!! WARNING !! - external meter not imported…", go to Setup → Meters and add the meter.
Check the phase setup. Follow step 5 above for each EVSE.
If activation still fails with "Drift detected…", contact Monta.
