Turn vehicles that already charge on your EVSEs into fleet vehicles in a few clicks, without typing vehicle IDs by hand.
What is a VID?
A VID (vehicle ID) is the identifier a car sends to the EVSE when it's plugged in. It looks like VID:AABBCC112233. Monta uses it for Autocharge: once a VID is registered on a vehicle, Monta recognises that car when it plugs in.
Create from VIDs lists the VIDs your EVSEs have already seen, so you can turn the ones you want into vehicles in bulk.
Before you start
- The car must have charged on one of the account's EVSEs, and the EVSE must report vehicle IDs. Not every EVSE and car do. How the session was started doesn't matter: sessions started from the app or with a charge key also record the VID when the EVSE reports one.
- You need permission to create vehicles on the account the vehicles should belong to.
Only create vehicles for cars your organisation is responsible for. Every car that charged on your EVSEs can appear in the list, including visitors' cars. Once a VID is registered on a vehicle in your account, that car can be recognised and, where Autocharge is available, start charging just by plugging in, paid by the account.
Open Create from VIDs
From the Vehicles page
- Go to EMP / Fleet → Vehicles.
- Open the arrow next to New and choose Create from VIDs.
- Pick the account the new vehicles should belong to, and confirm.
From an account
- Go to Accounts and open the account.
- Open the Vehicles tab.
- Open the arrow next to New and choose Create from VIDs.
From an account, there's no account picker: the vehicles are created in that account.
Read the list
The page lists the VIDs seen on the account's EVSEs in the selected time window: the last 7, 30 or 90 days (30 by default). Each row is one VID.

The most recently seen VIDs are at the top. Click a column header to sort by VID, Sessions, kWh or Last seen, or use Search VIDs to find a specific one. Click the refresh button to reload the list.
The counter above the table, for example 100 of 154 VIDs shown, tells you how many VIDs were found and how many are listed. The page lists up to 500 of the most recently seen VIDs. If you have more, choose a shorter time window.
What the Linked vehicle column means

VIDs that already belong to a vehicle can't be selected, so you can't create a duplicate by mistake.
Create the vehicles
- Tick the VIDs you want to create vehicles for.
- The checkbox in the header selects every available VID on the current page.
- Hold Shift and click to select a range.
- A bar appears at the bottom of the screen with the number of selected VIDs. Click Create vehicles, or Deselect all to start over.
- Monta creates one vehicle per selected VID and shows the progress. When it's done, you're taken back to the vehicle list you started from.
Each new vehicle is named Vehicle followed by its VID, for example Vehicle VID:AABBCC112233. Open the vehicle to give it a proper name, license plate and other details.
If some vehicles can't be created, Monta tells you; the rest are still created. Open Create from VIDs again to retry the remaining ones.
Good to know
- Changing the time window clears your selection, so you never create vehicles for VIDs you can no longer see.
- Searching keeps your selection. If some selected VIDs are hidden by your search, the bar tells you how many, and Create vehicles still includes them.
- New vehicles can take a few minutes to show as linked on this page. If a VID you just created still shows —, wait a moment and click refresh.
Frequently asked questions
Why is a vehicle I know charges here missing from the list?
Either the EVSE or the car doesn't report a vehicle ID, the car didn't charge within the selected time window, or it charged on an EVSE that belongs to a different account. Try the 90-day window, or open Create from VIDs from the account that owns the EVSE.
Why can't I select a VID?
It already belongs to a vehicle: one of yours (you see its name or number) or another operator's (Claimed (vehicle hidden)).
Can I rename the vehicles afterwards?
Yes. "Vehicle VID:…" is only a placeholder. Edit the vehicle like any other.
Can I move the new vehicles to a different account?
They're created in the account you picked. To use a different account, start Create from VIDs from that account instead.
I created a vehicle for the wrong car. What do I do?
Delete the vehicle, or remove its VID. The car is then no longer recognised as that vehicle.
