Nayax payment terminal onboarding guide

Help Center / Monta Hub / Payments & Transactions / Payment Terminals / Nayax payment terminal onboarding guide

This guide explains how to set up a Nayax payment terminal so EV drivers can start and pay for charging sessions directly on the terminal while Monta manages charging, payment reconciliation, and payouts through Monta Wallet.

How the Monta + Nayax setup works

Nayax terminals connect to Monta through a cloud/OCPI integration. There is no local cable connection between the EVSE and the terminal in this setup.

At a high level:

  1. The driver plugs in the vehicle or initiates a session through the screen of the EVSE.

  2. Monta sends a command to Nayax that someone wants to start a session.

  3. The terminal shows the EVSE or connector as ready for payment.

  4. The driver pays on the Nayax terminal.

  5. If card payment is approved, Nayax sends a start command to Monta.

  6. Monta sends a command to the EVSE to start the charge session.

  7. When the session ends, Monta reconciles the payment and revenue through Monta Wallet real-time.

Before you start

Make sure you have:

  • Access to the Monta Account that owns the EVSEs

  • The Nayax terminal serial number for each physical terminal

Step 1: Configure the Nayax payment terminal in Monta

In Monta Hub:

  1. Go to Account → Payments → Payment terminals.

  2. Select Nayax.

  3. Enter the Nayax terminal serial number.

  4. Link the terminal to the correct EVSE(s).

Step 2: Ask Nayax Support to map and transfer the terminals

Nayax Support must link each terminal to the correct Monta EVSE(s) and transfer the terminals to Monta's Nayax account. This allows Monta to manage payment reconciliation and payouts through Monta Wallet in real time.

Send Nayax the terminal and EVSE details, along with written approval for the transfer. The message generated after you update the linked EVSEs in Monta contains the information Nayax needs to complete the mapping. Include your Monta Customer Success Manager in CC so Monta can track the transfer and help coordinate the next steps.

Notify Nayax whenever you add or remove linked EVSEs or move the terminal to a different Monta account. Nayax must update the pairing before the terminal will work correctly.

Why does Monta require the terminals to be under Monta's Nayax account?

  • Monta can manage payment reconciliation and payouts from one place.

  • No need to compare revenue and expenses in multiple places.

  • Revenue can be distributed through Monta Wallet.

  • Operators and location hosts do not need to reconcile payment terminal transactions separately in Nayax.

  • Monta can provide a simpler support path because charging, payment, and payout data are connected.

  • This avoids split ownership where the EVSE is managed in Monta but the payment flow is managed elsewhere.

Email template:

To: Nayax Support
CC: <your Monta Customer Success Manager>

Hi Nayax Team,

I would like to request the transfer of the following payment terminals to Monta's Nayax account.

I confirm that Monta is allowed to manage payment reconciliation and payouts for charging sessions processed through these terminals.

Please transfer and map the following terminals:

Nayax terminal serial number: 573243974XXX

EVSEs (1):

1. Tesla 1
   OCPI location ID: s892892
   OCPI EVSE UID: US*MON*E4XXXXXX

Thanks!

Step 3: Wait for Nayax to confirm activation and mapping

Nayax must confirm that:

  • The terminal has been transferred to Monta's Nayax account

  • The terminal is mapped to the correct Monta EVSE(s)

  • The terminal is activated

A terminal can be "active" in Nayax but still not mapped to the correct EVSE. If this happens, the terminal may appear online but still fail to start a charge.

Step 4: Ask Monta support to assign the payment processor credentials

After Nayax confirms the transfer and activation: Contact Monta Support

Monta Support must log in to MyNayax and assign the correct issuer payment processor credentials to the terminal.

Once this is complete, the terminal is ready for an end-to-end test.

A terminal can be mapped and active in Nayax but still fail to accept payment if the incorrect payment processor is configured.

Step 5: Test the payment terminal

Once Nayax confirms setup is complete:

  1. Plug a vehicle into the EVSE.

  2. Confirm the terminal transitions to the 'accepting payment' screen.

  3. Start a payment on the Nayax terminal.

  4. Confirm the EVSE starts.

  5. Stop the session from the terminal or EVSE.

  6. Confirm the session appears in Monta.

  7. Confirm the payment and revenue appear as expected.

If the terminal does not wake up, does not show the EVSE, or cannot start a charge, contact Monta Support with:

  • Terminal serial number

  • EVSE ID

  • Location ID

  • EVSE UID(s)

  • Time of the test

  • What the driver saw on the terminal screen

  • A video of plugging in a vehicle and filming the EVSE and payment terminal screen

Optional: Configure EVSE-specific settings

Some EVSE hardware supports both local terminal mode and cloud terminal mode. Monta's Nayax integration is cloud based, so the EVSE must not be configured for local terminal communication.

Known configuration notes:

  • Autel AC Ultra / MaxiEVSE: Ask Autel Support to set the EVSE POS setting to Cloud POS mode. Local POS mode is not supported for this setup.

FAQ

Can one Nayax terminal be linked to multiple EVSEs or connectors?

Yes, depending on the terminal model and location setup. Make sure all relevant EVSE IDs and connector EVSE UIDs are shared with Nayax.

Can I add additional ports to a Nayax terminal without contacting Nayax?

No, anytime you add or remove ports from the location/terminal you will have to reach out to Nayax support and follow the same process.

Can we keep the terminal in our own Nayax account?

No, If Monta is expected to manage payments, reconciliation, and Wallet payouts, the terminal should be transferred to Monta's Nayax account. As of now this integration does not support having your own Nayax account.

Why does Nayax ask for Location ID and EVSE UID?

Nayax uses these roaming/OCPI values to map the physical terminal to the EVSE/connector it should control through the Monta cloud integration.

The terminal is online but does not start charging. What should I check?

Confirm the EVSE is public, roaming is enabled, the terminal is linked to the EVSE in Monta, and Nayax has mapped the terminal to the correct EVSE UID(s). If it still fails, contact Monta Support with the test time and terminal/EVSE details.

The terminal does not wake up after the vehicle is plugged in. What should I do?

This usually means the terminal is not receiving the expected EVSE status update. Contact Monta Support with the EVSE ID, terminal serial number, EVSE UID, and test timestamp. Ask them to verify that the OCPI "preparing" event was sent to Nayax.

If so, Nayax has likely not mapped the EVSE Location ID and EVSE UID to the payment terminal correctly.

The payment terminal is not accepting my card

This usually means the terminal is not correctly configured. Contact Monta Support with the EVSE ID, terminal serial number, EVSE UID, and test timestamp.

They will need to update the payment processor credentials in the MyNayax under the 'payments' tab.

Where can drivers find receipts?

Drivers can use Monta's receipt flow where supported. If receipts are expected to come from Nayax or from another PSP setup, confirm the payment flow with Monta before going live.

How do I change the pre-auth?

The Nayax pre-auth can only be controlled through the MyNayax Portal. Contact Monta Support with the terminal serial number to change the pre-auth.

Once set up, do I still pay a Nayax fee?

No, the only fee you pay is your Monta Transaction fee.

What is the transaction fee that Monta charges for Nayax transactions?

Since the transaction will be seen as a roaming transaction, Monta will bill the same transaction fee you have contractually committed for all roaming transactions.
