Cost centers let you group charging costs by department, project, vehicle pool, or any unit you reconcile spend against. Once you tag your drivers, vehicles, charge keys, or accounts with a cost center, every charge is automatically attributed to the right bucket — no manual sorting needed.
Where to find cost centers
In Monta Hub, go to Finance > Cost centers.
Create a cost center
Click New.
Fill in:
Name — a human-readable label (e.g. "Fleet Operations"). Must be unique within the operator.
External ID — your billing-system reference code (e.g. "FLEET-001")
Click Create.
Assign a cost center
Assign a cost center to the entities whose charges should be attributed to it:
Members (team members)
Member profiles
Vehicles
Charge keys (RFID tokens)
Accounts (including nested accounts)
To assign in bulk: select multiple rows in the relevant list (for example, Fleet Management > Members), then click Assign cost center.
To assign individually: open the entity's detail page and update the Cost center field.
Cost centers are scoped per account. When bulk-assigning, select rows from a single account only.
How charge attribution works
When a charge starts, Monta automatically resolves which cost center to attribute it to, using this priority order:
Charge key (RFID token) — highest priority
Member (the driver who initiated the charge)
Member profile
Vehicle
Account (the paying account)
No match — charge has no cost center attribution
The resolved cost center is stored on the charge. You can see it in the Cost center ID field on any charge's detail page.
Edit a cost center
Open the cost center from Finance > Cost centers, hover your cursor over the cost center you want to update and select Edit.
Delete a cost center
Open Finance > Cost centers, hover your cursor over the cost center you want to remove, and select Delete.
A cost center cannot be deleted while entities still reference it. Remove the cost center assignment from all members, vehicles, charge keys, and accounts first.
Historical charges retain the cost center's external ID for accounting integrity. Future charges will no longer be attributed to the deleted cost center.
