OCPP compliance
Modern, smart charging devices are connected to the cloud. Connecting charge points to Monta is easy and secure because of Monta’s compliance with Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP).
What is it?
Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) is an open-source communication protocol that facilitates the exchange of information between an EV charger and its backend management system. The vision of OCPP is to make any EV charger work with any charger management software, which is why we support OCPP in Monta and are compatible with any hardware brand out there that supports OCPP. The OCPP compliance of each charge point will be tested by Monta to ensure compatibility.
Monta’s OCPP
Monta’s OCPP support makes EV infrastructure more flexible for both operators and manufacturers. It ensures easy integration across different charge point brands and backends, helping everyone stay compatible, future-proof, and free to choose the setup that works best for them.
OCPP in action
EV Driver
You are an EV driver travelling through Europe. Since OCPP is the standard protocol among many charge points, that allows Monta to build an extensive network of CP across Europe (225k and counting) that you can easily locate and use, eliminating range anxiety and improving your EV driving experience.
CPO
You are a CPO and want to switch to a different backend since your needs have changed and your current backend management system is unable to meet them. Because your charge points support OCPP, that offers you flexibility when it comes to backend changes, while also being cost-efficient, and, if desired, allowing public access to your charge point will increase your revenue.
Manufacturer
You’re a hardware manufacturer choosing a protocol for your charge points. You go with OCPP, it’s the industry standard and keeps your product backend-agnostic. With Monta handling the backend and user interface, you can focus on building great hardware while we handle the UX.
Are we compatible?
We recommend adding support for all Feature Profiles, i.e. “Smart Charging” Profile for Load Balancing, “Firmware Management” for remote firmware upgrades via OCPP, “Local Auth List Management” for allowing offline approval of RFID cards, and “Remote Trigger” to request messages such as MeterValues.
Moreover, we can give you a list of all the OCPP configurations required for a specific charge point connected to Monta and modify them afterwards, if needed. Since we want to make this process as easy as possible, our Powered by Monta partnership programme offers help in the implementation and improvement of the OCPP implementation.
