Remote actions drivers can trigger on a charge point

Choose whether drivers can force-stop a session, unlock the cable, or reboot the charger from the Monta app.

For: Operators using Monta Hub who manage charge points, and the drivers who charge on them.

Beyond starting and stopping a charge, some charge points let a driver trigger extra remote actions from the Monta Charge app. From Monta Hub you decide which of these a driver is allowed to use. They live under Remote actions drivers can trigger on the charge point.

Illustration: an operator choosing which remote actions drivers can trigger in Monta Hub — force-stop session, unlock cable, reboot — shown as actions the driver can tap in the Monta app.

What each action does

  • Force-stop session — ends a charging session that is stuck while stopping. If a driver taps stop and the charger doesn't respond, force-stop pushes it through.
  • Unlock cable — releases a cable or connector that stayed locked after a session, so the driver can unplug.
  • Reboot EVSE — restarts the charger to clear an error or an unresponsive state.

How it works

These are real commands sent to the charge point over its live connection (OCPP), not app-only shortcuts. Monta only offers an action to a driver when three things line up at once: the operator has enabled it in Hub, the charge point can currently perform it, and the driver is allowed to (normally because it's their own session, or they own/manage the charger). If any of those isn't true, the action simply doesn't appear.

Where drivers find them in the app

In Monta Charge, open the charge point and go to its settings, under Monta Connection. The available actions appear there as buttons:

  • Force stop charging
  • Unlock
  • Reboot charge point (shown as Reboot charger in the US and Canada)

Only actions that are enabled and currently possible are shown, and they're greyed out while the charger is offline or updating its firmware. There is no extra confirmation step — after the driver taps, the app confirms with a short message such as "Charge session is stopping…", "Charge point is unlocking…" or "Charge point is rebooting…".

Guard rails — when each action is available

Even with an action enabled in Hub, Monta only surfaces it when it's safe and sensible:

  • Force-stop session — only for the driver's own session, and only once a normal stop is already in progress. For paid sessions it becomes available after the stop has been pending for about 2 minutes. Charge point owners and team admins can force-stop at any time.
  • Unlock cable — only on OCPP chargers that are online and actually have a locked cable (not AC Type 1 connectors). Offered to the driver who ran the last completed session on that charger, plus owners and admins.
  • Reboot EVSE — only on OCPP chargers that are online and have not been rebooted in the last 15 minutes, and never while someone else is charging. It's meant for a charger that is in an error state or stuck — for example a cable still locked a few minutes after a session, or a session that failed.

Defaults (before you change anything)

  • Force-stop session and Unlock cable are on by default on new charge points.
  • Reboot EVSE is off by default, and only starts on for home and private charge points.
  • On roaming charge points, force-stop and unlock are off by default.
  • On AC chargers in North America, unlock is off by default (the connector isn't lockable the same way).

How operators turn them on or off

In Monta Hub, open the charge point and go to its settings. Under Remote actions drivers can trigger, switch each action on or off. Turning one off hides it from drivers entirely, whatever the charger's state — useful if you would rather handle these yourself or through support.

Good to know

  • These actions only reach OCPP charge points that are online — an offline or non-integrated charger can't receive them.
  • Drivers only ever act on their own session; they can't stop or unlock someone else's charge.
  • If an action you expect isn't showing, check that it's enabled in Hub, the charger is online, and the charger's current state allows it.
