How do I see an account the way its people see it (Viewing as)?

Preview an account page in Monta Hub as its owner, admins, members, a member group or one person, to see exactly what they can and can't access.

Help Center / Monta Hub / Admin & Settings / How do I see an account the way its people see it (Viewing as)?

Preview an account page in Monta Hub as its owner, admins, members, a member group or one person, to see exactly what they can and can't access.

For: Operators who manage accounts for their customers and want to know what the account's own people see in Monta Hub.

As an operator, you see more of an account than its own owner, admins and members do. Their view depends on the account's feature set and on their role. Viewing as lets you preview the account page exactly as one of them sees it, without signing in as them.

Use it to check a feature set before you roll it out, or when someone on the account says "I can't find it", so you see the same page they do.

Preview an account as one of its people

  1. Open the account in Hub.
  2. At the top right, next to Share feedback, select the Viewing as button (the shield icon).
  3. Pick who you want to see the page as.
The Viewing as menu on an account page, with Operator, Account owner, Admin, Member and a member group, each describing what they can't see or can only read

You can preview the account as:

  • Operator: you, the default. Everything this account's feature set allows you to see.
  • Account owner, Admin or Member: everyone with that role on the account.
  • Member groups: the people in one of the account's member groups.
  • People: one specific person on the account.

Each option tells you, before you pick it, how it differs from your view: what they have no access to, what is read-only for them, and what is operator only. If an option shows Same as your view, they see what you see.

While you're previewing

The account page previewed as a Member: only the Overview, Network, Vehicles and Settings tabs are shown, and the button reads Viewing as: Member
  • The button turns dark and shows who you're viewing as, for example Viewing as: Member.
  • The account page only shows the tabs and areas they can see. Areas they can only read are read-only for you too.
  • It's only a preview. You stay signed in as yourself, and nothing on the account changes.
  • To go back to your own view, open Viewing as and select Operator.
  • The page link includes the preview, so you can send it to a colleague who also has access to the account.

The Viewing as button only appears when there's a difference to preview: when the account's feature set hides something from its own people, or when its roles have different access.

Good to know

  • Viewing as isn't the same as View as account member in the account switcher. That option shows Hub as you see it through your own memberships, while Viewing as previews one account page for someone else.
  • To change what an account's people can see, change the account's feature set. See How do I use account feature groups in Monta Hub?
  • Viewing as is in early access. If you don't see it yet, you can turn it on in your Release channel.
