Learn how to update firmware on multiple charging stations at once using the bulk firmware update wizard in Monta Hub.
For: Operators using Monta Hub
ℹ️ This feature is in Early Access and may not be enabled on your account. If you do not see the Create bulk update button on the Firmware updates page, go to Admin > Release channel in Monta Hub to enable it.
The bulk firmware update feature lets you update the firmware on multiple charging stations at once, with control over rollout strategy, failure handling, and scheduling.
Before you start
- You need the charging station update permission in your operator account.
- The charging stations you want to update must have a firmware update available.
Step 1: Select charging stations
- In Monta Hub, go to CPO / Network > Firmware updates.
- On the Charging stations tab, select the charging stations you want to include in the bulk update. Only charging stations with an available firmware update can be selected.
- Click Create bulk update.
The Bulk firmware update wizard opens.
Step 2: Choose a rollout strategy
Choose how to roll out the update across your charging stations:
- All at once — Updates all charging stations in parallel.
- One at a time — Updates one charging station at a time across all locations.
- One per location at a time — Updates one charging station per location at a time. Locations update in parallel, but only one charging station per location is in progress at any moment.
Click Next.
Step 3: Set failure handling
Choose what happens if a charging station fails to update or does not come back online:
- Continue on failure — Skips the failed charging station and moves to the next. You can review failures afterwards.
- Stop on first failure — Pauses that location's update if a charging station fails. Other locations continue unaffected.
Click Next.
Step 4: Schedule (optional)
By default, the update starts immediately after confirmation.
To run updates during a specific maintenance window, toggle Schedule a maintenance window and set:
- Start triggering updates at — when the rollout begins
- Stop triggering new updates at — when no new updates are triggered
Times are interpreted as the local time of each charging station's location. Updates already in progress when the window closes will continue.
Click Next.
Step 5: Review your settings
Review your rollout strategy, failure handling, schedule, and the charging stations included in the batch. Click Next to continue.
Step 6: Read the release notes and confirm
Review the firmware release notes for the versions being applied to your charging stations.
- Click Start bulk update to start the update immediately.
- Click Schedule bulk update if you set a maintenance window.
Monitor the update
After starting, the status dialog opens automatically. Each charging station shows one of these statuses:
- Planned — Waiting to start
- Scheduled — Will run during the maintenance window
- In progress — Update is running
- Succeeded — Update completed successfully
- Failed — Update could not be completed
- Cancelled — Update was cancelled before it started
To check a bulk update later:
- Go to CPO / Network > Firmware updates.
- Select the Firmware updates tab.
- Click the row of the bulk update you want to check.
Cancel a bulk update
- Open the bulk update status (as described above).
- Click Cancel batch.
- Confirm by clicking Cancel batch again.
Charging stations that are already updating or have succeeded are not affected. Only charging stations in Planned or Scheduled status are cancelled.
