Learn what subscription plans are available at operator level, how active charge points are counted for billing, and how to view your subscription usage in Monta Hub.

For: Operator users with Admin or Manager rights. This article explains how Monta counts active charge points for operator subscription billing — what makes a charge point billable, how the monthly count is taken, and how to view your current usage in Monta Hub.

Operator plans

These are the plans Monta applies to your operator account — how Monta bills you. They are separate from any subscription plans you may create for your own customers.

Your plan determines how you are billed: per active charge point, per enrolled charge point, or a fixed monthly fee. Operator plans fall into three groups: a platform fee, core plans, and add-ons.

Platform fee

  • Platform fee — flat monthly fee for platform access. Fixed price regardless of charge point count.

Core plans

You must have one active core plan. Core plans are billed per active charge point unless noted:

  • Operation — standard plan for new public and semi-public contracts. Billed per active charge point. AC and DC charge points can be priced separately.
  • Home — baseline plan for residential charge points. Billed per active charge point.
  • Home+ — advanced plan with all features for residential charge points. Billed per active charge point.
  • Reimbursement — for reimbursing drivers or employees for home charging. Billed per enrolled (sponsored) charge point.
  • Starter plan — introductory offer for new operators. €300/year platform fee covering up to 200 charge points, with a 5% transaction fee per session. Requires application approval. After 12 months, transitions automatically to the Operation plan.

Legacy plans: Enterprise, Business, and Pro are legacy plans still active for existing customers. They are not offered on new contracts.

Add-ons

Add-ons are billed in addition to a core plan:

  • Driver support — outsourced driver/end-customer support. Billed per charge point.
  • Data+ — data module (data access and exports). Fixed monthly fee.
  • White label — your own branded app and portal. Fixed monthly fee.
  • SLA (Gold / Platinum) — guaranteed response and resolution times for charger downtime. Fixed monthly fee.
  • Pro service — professional services (onboarding, setup, consulting). Fixed fee.
  • White Label Shop — white-label web shop for selling charging products and services to end customers. Fixed monthly fee.

What "active" means for a charge point

"Active" means the charge point is marked as active in the system — not that it was recently used, and not dependent on connectivity. A disconnected or passive charge point that is still set to active counts as a billable unit.

In Monta, a charge point corresponds to a single EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment) — the physical hardware unit. A charge point may have multiple connector types (for example, Type 2 and CCS on the same unit), but it counts as one billable unit.

A charge point is counted as a unit when all of the following are true:

  • It belongs to the operator holding the subscription — or to a sub-operator of that operator without its own subscription of the same type (see Parent and sub-operator subscriptions below).
  • It has an activation date set (active_at) — a one-time event, not affected by later charging activity or connectivity.
  • It is not deleted.
  • Its type (AC or DC) matches the subscription's selected charge point types. You must select AC, DC, or both for any charge points to be covered by the subscription.
  • Its team type matches the subscription's selected team types (when configured).

Automatic activation

An inactive charge point is activated automatically when:

  1. A single completed session exceeds 5 kWh, and
  2. The charge point's total across all completed sessions in the trailing 30-day window exceeds 50 kWh.

The activation date is set to the date the threshold is crossed. This applies to charge points managed directly in Monta only — not external chargers accessed via roaming networks. Once activated, a charge point remains active permanently.

Automatic deactivation

  • Operator charge points: Not automatically deactivated. Charge points on an operator subscription remain active until you manually deactivate them — they will continue to count as billable units regardless of connectivity or usage.
  • Personal (Monta-managed) teams: Once a day, charge points that have been active for more than 60 days and are in a DISCONNECTED or PASSIVE state are checked. A charge point is deactivated if:
    • It has been disconnected for more than 90 days, or
    • It is passive and does not have a tax-refund subscription.

How units are counted

For per-unit plans, the billable unit count is a snapshot taken at each monthly invoice date — not an average over the period.

  • Floor (contractual minimum): The billed count is always the greater of your active unit count and the contractual minimum. If your active unit count drops below the minimum, the minimum is billed.
  • Mid-month additions: Charge points added at any point during the month are billed in full at the month-end snapshot. They are not charged immediately on the day of addition, and there is no pro-rating.
  • Mid-month removals: Removing or deactivating a charge point mid-month does not reduce the current period's invoice. It drops off the count after that invoice is processed. No credit or refund is given for the current period.
  • No proration: Operator subscriptions are billed in full calendar months only.

Note: The invoiced amount may also be clamped by a contract maximum, so it is not always a simple unit price x unit count.

Sandbox accounts are free for fair usage. A sandbox is a sub-account for testing and demos — its charge points are excluded from live roaming and do not count towards your production billing. To create one, go to Admin - Settings - Sub accounts - New and enable the Sandbox option.

Parent and sub-operator subscriptions

When a parent operator has sub-operators beneath it:

  • Sub-operator without its own subscription: Its charge points count against the parent subscription, provided those charge points otherwise meet the eligibility criteria.
  • Sub-operator with its own subscription: Its charge points count against its own subscription — not the parent.

Cancelling a subscription

To cancel an operator subscription, contact Monta. The effects depend on which subscription is cancelled:

  • Sub-operator subscription cancelled: The sub-operator charge points fall back onto the parent subscription and are counted there at the parent rate — as if the sub-operator had never had its own subscription.
  • Parent subscription cancelled: Charge points covered by that subscription are deactivated — removed from billing, no longer visible in the Monta app, not eligible for roaming, and OCPP authorisation is blocked so new sessions cannot start. This applies to any sub-operator charge points that were relying on the parent subscription.
  • Parent operator churns entirely: All sub-operator subscriptions under that parent are cancelled and the same deactivation applies.

Reimbursement chargers

A charge point becomes a reimbursement charger when it sits in a private team under the operator (making it eligible for the Home subscription) and is also sponsored for reimbursement by a professional team under the same operator.

When the Reimbursement plan is active, the charge point is removed from both the Home and Operation subscription counts and billed against the Reimbursement plan only.

Viewing subscription usage in Monta Hub

  1. In Monta Hub, click your operator name at the bottom-left of the sidebar (the operator logo/name button with a chevron — just above your personal account button).
  2. In the dropdown that opens, click your operator name at the top to go to Operator profile.
  3. Click the Billing tab.

The Billing tab is visible only to users with Admin or Manager rights who have plan viewing permissions. It does not appear on demo accounts or sub-accounts without active subscriptions.

Each subscription card shows its live unit count (for example, Active charging stations). Click the count to open the Units and purchases dialog:

  • Active units — every unit currently counted, with Relation (ID), Type, and Applied date. Includes a search box and an Export to CSV button.
  • Purchases — one row per monthly billing run, with Date, Units billed, Total, and Status (Paid or Pending).

Note: The live count and the last billed count can differ — the billed figure is the snapshot taken at the invoice date.

Invoice CSV

Each invoice includes a CSV file with the per-unit breakdown behind each subscription charge, so you can reconcile what was billed.
