How do I create a subscription plan?

Learn about plan types, subscription payment methods, and how to create subscription plans in Monta Hub.

For: Operator users with Admin or Manager rights

Subscription plans let you offer recurring services to your clients — such as operational support, maintenance, leasing, charge point repairs, charging perks, and more. This article explains how plans work, the plan types available, and how to create one in Monta Hub.

What is a plan vs. a subscription?

  • A plan is a predefined template that outlines your services, pricing, billing frequency, and terms. It acts as a reusable blueprint you can apply to many customers — like a product catalogue page.
  • A subscription is the active agreement created when a plan is applied to a specific customer's team or charge point. It tracks billing, renewals, and any customer-specific terms.

Plan types

Plan type Pricing model Use case Description
Team plan Flat fee Platform fees, charge discount subscriptions, SLAs A fixed monthly amount charged from the Team Wallet to the Operator Wallet.
Team plan Priced per charge point Charge point services, revenue shares The team pays per integrated and active charge point. Optionally collect a share of charging revenue (transaction fee, fee per kWh, or fee per charge).
Team plan Priced per team member Fleet management, driver management The team pays per member who has accepted their team invitation.
Charge point plan Priced per charge point Leasing, SIM card support, DC fees, tax refund services (Denmark) Applied one-by-one to individual charge points. Optionally collect a share of charging revenue.
Sub-account plan Priced per charge point Billing sub-accounts efficiently Applied to a sub-account; the sub-account's operator pays per active charge point in the sub-account.

Subscription payment methods

Note: The following requirements take effect on April 27, 2026 for new subscriptions and May 18, 2026 for all existing PAYG teams. Current processes remain unchanged until those dates.

Subscription fees are paid using one of three billing methods set on the team:

Billing method How it works Card required?
Pay via Operator Transaction The operator covers all team transactions; the balance is settled monthly between operator and team. No
Pay via invoice Subscription fees are billed to the team via monthly invoice handled outside Monta. No
Pay as you go Subscription fees are charged directly to the team payment card on the renewal date. Yes

For Pay via Operator Transaction or Pay via invoice, subscriptions can be applied and approved immediately. For Pay as you go, if no card exists on the team, the subscription is created with Paused status (reason: Payment method missing). The team admin receives an email to add a card, and the subscription activates automatically once a card is added.

Create a plan

The steps below use two examples to illustrate the creation flow. The same structure applies to all plan types.

Example 1 — Team plan, priced per charge point

Select the type of plan

  1. In Monta Hub, navigate to Customer Relations in the left-hand menu.
  2. Click on Plans & Subscriptions.
  3. Click the +Create a plan button in the top-right corner.
  4. Choose Team plan → Priced per charge point.

Details and Pricing — define the pricing of your subscription:

  • Plan name — the name of your subscription plan.
  • Summary of your plan — a short description of the services you are offering.
  • Monthly subscription price — the price the customer will pay per month, including VAT. Monta takes a commission (a small fee depending on your contract) at the time of purchase.

Operator fees — optionally collect a revenue share from charging revenue. Toggle on any of the following fees and fill in the values:

  • Transaction fee — X% of the price of every charge, transferred to your Operator Wallet. This fee does not include VAT (it is added on top). Example: 2% fee with 25% VAT → you receive 2.5% of the charge price.
  • Start fee per charge — a fixed amount per charge session. Can also be applied to free charges.
  • Charge fee per kWh — a fixed amount per kWh charged. Example: 1 DKK/kWh with 25% VAT → charged 1.25 DKK/kWh; for a 5 kWh charge you receive 6.15 DKK.
  • Roaming transaction fee — X% applied to roaming charges. Requires roaming to be activated on the charge point.
  • Start fee per roaming charge — fixed amount per roaming charge session.
  • Roaming charge fee per kWh — fixed amount per kWh on roaming charges.

Subscription Settings — define activation, renewal, and cancellation behaviour:

  • Subscription approval before activation — choose whether subscriptions activate immediately or require manual approval.
  • Payment and renewal date — when the first payment and renewals occur.
  • Subscription cancellation — choose which users can cancel the subscription.

After finalising all details, review the plan summary and click Create plan.

Select the type of plan

  1. In Monta Hub, navigate to Customer Relations → Plans & Subscriptions.
  2. Click +Create a plan and choose Team plan → Flat fee.

Charge Discount — only available for flat fee plans. Gives team members a discount on charging:

  2. Optionally restrict the discount to payments made with the Team Wallet.
  3. To create a new discount, click +Add charge discount, give it a name, select a % discount value, and specify whether it applies to any charge point or selected charge points only. Click Create Discount. Discounts can be reused in other flat fee plans.

Details & Settings — fill in the remaining fields:

  • Detailed description of your service — include types of services and your support channels.
  • Terms & conditions — include eligibility, support, payment terms, and cancellation policy.
  • Contract URL — optionally link to a contract for the client to sign.
  • Support email — your support contact for clients (not related to Monta Support).
  • Publish plan in Marketplace — if published, end users can find and apply via Monta Charge. If not published, you apply subscriptions manually via Monta Hub.
  • Supported charge point models — specify which brands and models you support.
  • Subscription approval before activation, Payment and renewal date, Subscription cancellation — same as Subscription Settings above.

After finalising all details, review the plan summary and click Create plan.
