How to share your home charger — with a team, semi-publicly, or through roaming — and how to split the cost.
Monta lets you share your home charge point with the people you choose — your household, friends, neighbours, or guests — and decide how (or whether) they pay. There isn't a single "share" switch; instead you pick the option that matches what you want to do.
Option 1 — Share with specific people (an Account)
The most common way to share is to create an Account and invite the people you want to give access to.
- In the Monta app, go to Accounts and create an account (or open your existing one).
- Invite people by phone number or email, or share a join code they can use to join themselves.
- For each member, you can set a price per kWh — so friends or family charge at a rate you choose (including free, if you like).
Account members can then start a session on your charger from their own Monta app. This is the best option for a household or a fixed group of people.
Option 2 — Let anyone charge (make it semi-public)
If you want passers-by or visitors to be able to use your charger too, set the charge point's access to Mixed:
- Account members keep the price you set for them.
- Everyone else can charge at a public price.
You can do this from your charge point's Pricing & access settings. Guests don't need to be in your account — they can start and pay via the Monta app or by scanning your charger's Monta Sticker (QR/NFC).
Tip: If you only want your own people to use the charger, keep it Private instead of Mixed.
Option 3 — Share across other networks (roaming)
If you'd like drivers from other charging networks to be able to use your charge point, you can enable roaming. This makes your charger visible and usable to drivers outside Monta. Roaming is available on Business and Enterprise setups.
How sharing the cost works
When you share with an account, you can use split billing: the account covers each session up to a price per kWh you set, and the driver pays anything above that. This is how you share the cost of charging fairly between yourself (or your account) and the person plugging in.
Which option should I choose?
- Let specific people charge at a price you set → use an Account (Option 1).
- Let visitors or passers-by charge too → use Mixed access (Option 2).
- Let drivers from other networks charge → enable Roaming (Option 3).
