Early access. How Auto-register RFID works: an unknown tag creates a pending key, account admins get one SMS or email to confirm or deny it, and unconfirmed keys expire after 7 days.

For: Operators and account admins in Monta Hub who manage charge keys.

Early access: Auto-register RFID is currently available to selected operators only. If you don't see the option on your charge points, ask your Monta contact.

Auto-register RFID saves you adding RFID keys by hand. When it's on for a charge point and someone taps an unknown RFID tag, Monta registers that tag as a pending charge key on the charge point's account and asks the account's admins to approve it. The key only works once an admin confirms it.

Illustration: with Auto-register RFID on, tapping an unknown RFID creates a pending key and no charge starts; account admins get an SMS with a link; on the linked page they confirm the key to activate it, or deny it, and the driver then taps again to charge.

How to turn it on

In Monta Hub, open the charge point and turn on Auto-register RFID. New tags tapped there are added to the account that owns the charge point.

Optionally, set a name for auto-registered keys under Operator settings → General → Auto-registered charge key name. Without a name template, new keys are called "Auto-registered RFID".

What happens on a tap

  1. An unknown RFID is tapped on the charge point.
  2. Monta creates a pending charge key on the charge point's account. The key isn't linked to a specific driver and can't be used yet. No charge starts on this first tap.
  3. The account's admins are notified with a link to review the new tag (see below).
  4. An admin confirms or denies it from the link:
    • Confirm: the key is activated and can be used on the operator's charge points, the Monta network and roaming networks.
    • Deny: the pending key is deleted.
  5. After confirmation, the driver taps again to start charging.

Tapping the same tag again while it's still pending won't create a second key or send another message.

How admins are notified

Every admin of the account that owns the charge point gets one message, either an SMS or an email:

  • SMS if the admin has a verified phone number on their Monta profile.
  • Email if the admin has no verified phone number, or if the SMS can't be sent.
  • Nothing if the admin has neither a verified phone number nor an email address.

Both messages contain the charge point name, the RFID number with all but the last 4 characters hidden, and a short link to review the tag. The email subject is "New RFID tag pending confirmation", with a Review and confirm button.

Messages are sent in each admin's own language and carry your operator's branding. The link uses your operator's own web address.

Only admins are notified. The account owner isn't notified unless they're also an admin, and regular members aren't notified. There's no push notification or in-app message; the SMS or email is where you act.

Confirming or denying a tag

  • Open the link from the SMS or email. You don't need to log in.
  • The page shows the charge point and the partly hidden RFID number, with Confirm and Deny buttons.
  • Any admin who received the message can act on it. The first decision counts.
  • Once a tag is confirmed or denied, or has expired, the link shows a "link no longer valid" page.

Keep the link private. Because it works without logging in, anyone with the link can confirm the key.

If nobody confirms

Pending keys that aren't confirmed within 7 days are deleted automatically. The tag then can't be used until it's registered again.

Tips

  • Make sure admins have a verified phone number. An SMS is the fastest way to get a tag approved while the driver is still at the charge point.
  • Check that the account has at least one admin with contact details. Without one, nobody is asked to confirm and the key expires after 7 days.
  • If several people are admins, all of them get the message. Agree who handles new tags.

Good to know

  • Only unknown tags are registered. A tag already used by another charge key or vehicle isn't registered again.
  • The tag must be a valid, supported RFID format.
  • Auto-registered keys get the same default usage limits as other new charge keys.
