Set your own kWh limit and pre-authorisation for drivers who charge without a Monta account.
For: Operators using Monta Hub
When a driver charges without a Monta account, for example at a payment terminal, by scanning a QR code and paying by card, or with an RFID card that isn't linked to a Monta account, Monta reserves an amount on their card before the charge starts. That reservation is called a pre-authorisation. It is based on a kWh limit, and the charge stops when the driver reaches that limit.
By default, Monta sets this guest kWh limit for you based on the region of the charge point. You can now set your own limit instead.
What the guest kWh limit does
- Sets the pre-authorisation: the amount reserved on the guest's card is based on the kWh limit and the price of the charge point.
- Caps the session: the charge stops when the guest has used the kWh limit.
- Only affects guests: drivers with a Monta account (app, charge keys on an account, Autocharge) are not affected.
Where it applies
- Payment terminals at your charge points
- Web payment and App Clip / Instant App (QR code, no account)
- RFID cards that are not linked to a Monta account
How do I set the guest kWh limit?
- In Monta Hub, go to Admin → Settings.
- Under Guest charging, find kWh limit per guest session.
- Enter a value between 30 and 300 kWh and save.
To go back to Monta's default, clear the field and save.
What value should I choose?
- A higher limit lets vehicles with large batteries charge fully in one session, for example at fast charge points or for trucks. The hold on the guest's card is larger.
- A lower limit keeps the hold on the guest's card small, which can reduce abandoned payments. Charges stop earlier.
Your limit is used exactly as you set it. Monta's regional adjustments (for example the extra kWh added in North America) do not apply on top of it.
What do guests see?
- A temporary hold on their card when the charge starts.
- They are only charged for what they use. The bank releases the rest of the hold, usually within 1–7 business days.
