For: Drivers using Monta Charge in an account that uses split billing.
Split billing is a way your account pays for your charging up to a maximum cost per kilowatt hour (kWh). The account wallet pays the charge point operator in full for every session. When you charge above the cap, the difference is billed to you and collected once a month from your personal wallet or payment card.
This article covers what to expect as a driver. For the concept, see What is split billing? For the setup steps (operators only), see How do I set up split billing for my account?
When your account owner enables split billing for you, Monta walks you through everything you need before your first charge.
What happens when my account turns on split billing?
- Your account owner sets a covered rate for AC, DC, or both — either on your member group or directly on your account membership.
- Monta sends you an onboarding email. The email confirms your covered rates and explains how the monthly settlement works.
- The next time you open Monta Charge, the account wallet shows your covered rates and you can start charging.
- If your charge cost exceeds the covered rate, a personal contribution is charged on the 1st day of the following month.
To add a payment card or top up your personal wallet, open Monta Charge, go to the Wallets & payment section, and follow the prompts.
You receive a new onboarding email any time your covered rates change. The email lists the new alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) values. Sessions that were already completed use the rate that was in effect when the session ended.
What if I do not want to use split billing?
Split billing is enabled by your account owner. Contact your account owner if you want to be removed from a member group or if you have questions about the covered rates that have been set for you.
How do I find affordable charge points?
Open Monta Charge and use the map. Filter charge points by a maximum price to show only those within your account's covered rate.
What do I see before and during a charge?
Åbn din personlige wallet i Monta Charge.
- Onboarding email — sent when your account enables split billing or changes your caps. Confirms the covered rates for AC and DC and explains that the effective rate includes every fee, not only the energy price.
- Pre-settlement reminder — sent on day 23 of each month. Shows your total contributions so far and the upcoming settlement date. The final amount may change if you charge more before the month ends.
- Settlement failed — sent if a collection attempt fails. Asks you to add funds or update your payment card. Monta retries automatically.
- Settlement cancelled — sent after all retry attempts fail. You still owe the amount. Your account administrator was notified as well.
- Settlement completed — sent when the collection succeeds, together with the personal settlement statement.
When and how am I charged?
Personlige bidrag akkumuleres over kalendermåneden. Monta behandler afregninger den 1. i den følgende måned.
- Monta forsøger først at opkræve fra din personlige wallet.
Kontakt din kontoadministrator for at afregne direkte.
How does split billing work with an RFID charge key?
Split billing works the same way with an RFID charge key. The key is linked to your account, so the cap applies based on your account membership. You do not need to open Monta Charge for split billing to apply.
With an RFID charge key, there is no pre-charge price warning. The charge summary shows the account share and your personal contribution after the session ends.
You receive the same emails about personal contributions and settlements.
FAQs
Can I see my contributions before the settlement?
Yes. In Monta Charge, your personal wallet shows pending contributions. You also see the breakdown on each charge summary and receive a pre-settlement reminder on day 23.
What if a charger uses dynamic pricing?
Monta does not check split billing while the session is running. After the session ends, Monta divides the total session cost by the total kWh charged. If that average is above your account's covered rate, you pay the excess. A session that started below the cap can still create a personal contribution if the price went up during the session.
Why is my personal contribution higher than I expected?
The effective rate used for split billing includes every fee in the session — energy, start fees, minute fees, and idle fees — not just the kWh price shown at the charge point. A high start fee on a short session can push the average above the cap even when the kWh price alone is below it.
What happens if my payment fails?
Du skylder stadig beløbet — kontakt din kontoadministrator for at afregne direkte.
