Monta organises your charging hardware in a simple hierarchy, from the physical place down to the individual plug. Understanding it makes pricing, access, reporting and troubleshooting much easier — because each setting applies at a specific level. Monta follows the OCPI 2.2+ industry standard for this structure.

What each level means
- Location — a physical place where one or more charging stations are installed. This is the primary unit for pricing, access control, load management and reporting. Location is the preferred term; you may also see it called a Site or Charge Point Group — they are the same thing.
- Charging station — the physical unit (e.g. a wall box or a pedestal) that houses one or more EVSEs (charge points). A dual-socket pedestal is one charging station with two EVSEs.
- EVSE — a single socket that delivers power to one vehicle for one charging session. This is what most of the platform hangs off: pricing, access and sessions apply here. EVSE is the industry-standard term (used in the OCPI standard); in the Monta charging apps the same unit is called a charge point or charger. An EVSE can have more than one connector, but only one charges at a time.
- Connector — the physical plug or cable (Type 2, CCS, Type 1, CHAdeMO) on an EVSE (charge point). Each connector is tracked individually for status and reporting.
Quick translation: EVSE = charge point = charger (a single socket — "charge point"/"charger" is what the Monta apps say). Location = Site = Charge Point Group (the physical place). A charging station is the physical unit that groups EVSEs together.
An example
Imagine a car park with two pedestals, each with two sockets, plus one single wall box:
- The car park is 1 Location.
- It has 3 charging stations (two pedestals + one wall box).
- It has 5 EVSEs / charge points (2 + 2 + 1 sockets).
- Each EVSE has 1 or more connectors depending on its plug types.

Go to Operations → Network. The tabs map onto the hierarchy:
- EVSE — the list of individual EVSEs (sockets).
- Charging Stations — the physical units that group EVSEs.
- Locations — your sites (physical places).
- Insights — network insights.
Based on the OCPI standard
This structure follows OCPI 2.2+ (Open Charge Point Interface), the open industry standard for exchanging charging data between networks. OCPI defines the same three levels — Location → EVSE → Connector — where an "EVSE" is a single socket, exactly what the Monta apps call a charge point or charger.
