How do I set up a Bilateral Agreement?
Learn how to offer discounted pricing or exclusive access rights to specific eMobility Providers (EMPs) for roaming charges on your charge points.
What is a Bilateral Agreement?
Bilateral agreements are offers from Charge Point Operators (CPOs) to eMobility Providers (EMPs). They allow Operators to select specific EMPs and customize the conditions for sharing their charge points — for example, offering a discounted charging price or granting exclusive access to a specific platform.
This feature is only available for Operator accounts with a Business or Enterprise Monta plan and can only be accessed via Monta Hub.
Prerequisites
- Enable the Bilateral agreement feature. Contact your Customer Success Manager or Account Manager at Monta to confirm eligibility and enable the feature for your Operator account.
- Connect your charge points. The charge points you want to share must be added and connected to Monta.
- Enable roaming. Roaming must be enabled on the charge points you want to include. We recommend creating a dedicated Roaming Price Group for charges made via roaming platforms.
How do I create a Bilateral Agreement?
Step 1: Select the agreement type
| Type | Description | Example |
| Discount in roaming | The Operator offers a discounted price to one or more selected EMPs. The discount is set as a percentage, up to a maximum of 65%. | Roaming Price Group: 0.50 EUR / kWh. Discount: 5%. EMP pays the Operator: 0.475 EUR / kWh. |
| Exclusive roaming | The Operator grants exclusive rights to specific EMPs to display the charge points on their platform. |
Step 2: Fill in the agreement settings
- Give a name to the agreement.
- Select a time period for the agreement.
- Specify the discount percentage (for discount agreements).
Step 3: Select the charge points by Team
Select which Team's charge points to share with the EMP. Only charge points with roaming enabled will be included in the agreement.
Step 4: Select the eMobility Provider(s)
Select one or more EMPs from the available list. If the EMP you are looking for is not listed, use the form linked in Monta Hub to request a new integration.
Step 5: Review and confirm
Review the agreement details carefully and confirm.
How do Bilateral Agreements work?
Changes from the agreement take effect the day after it is created.
Discount in roaming agreements: You offer the charge point at a discounted rate to the specific EMP. The EMP may display a different price to their EV drivers — EMPs are responsible for transparent pricing to their users. You receive the kWh price you set, minus the discount you applied for that EMP.
Exclusive roaming agreements: EV drivers can only find your charge points on Monta and the specific EMP(s) you have selected. This applies only to the Teams included in the agreement. All other charge points with active roaming remain shared with all EMPs that have an agreement with Monta, including Google Maps and Apple Maps. If you want exclusive agreements but still include Google Maps and Apple Maps, also select Eco Movement from the EMP list.
How do I manage an existing agreement?
- You can edit or delete agreements in Monta Hub.
- You cannot create multiple discounts for the same charge points with the same EMP.
- You cannot set a discount greater than 50% of the Roaming Price Group.
- When you add new charge points to a Team included in an agreement, they automatically become part of that arrangement.
