Disclaimer

Before you begin, search our Integration guides to find the specific guide for your charge point model.

If you cannot find a specific guide, check here if your charge point model is supported by Monta.

This guide is only intended for charge point models, supported by Monta.

If your charge point model is not on the supported list, we cannot guarantee that the integration will be successful, and we cannot provide assistance. The supported charge point models have been tested by Monta’s Integration Team.

Requirements

Before you begin, ensure you have the following:

  • A charge point compatible with OCPP 1.6-j.
  • Network connectivity for the charge point.
  • Configuration access to the charge point (via web interface or relevant software).

Integration Steps

1. Access the Charge Point Configuration Interface

Log in to the charge point’s configuration interface. If unsure how to do so, please refer to the charge points own installation guide.

2. Locate the Network or OCPP Settings

  • Navigate to the section where you can configure network and/or OCPP settings.
  • Make sure a network connection is set up. This would be either a wired, Wi-Fi or GSM (SIM) connection.

SIM Card connection

  • If you have a SIM card from the Monta shop, the APN is “INTERNET”, Username and Password should be blank.
  • If you’re in doubt about whether the SIM card is activated, reach out to WirelessLogicNordic.
  • If unsure how to set up the wired, Wi-Fi or GSM (SIM) connection, please refer to the instructions that came with the charge point.

3. Configure the OCPP Server URL

  • Set the OCPP server URL to ocpp.monta.app
  • Ensure the protocol is set to WebSocket Secure (WSS).

4. Set the Port Number

Configure the port number to 443. This is the standard port for secure WebSocket connections.

5. Configure the WebSocket Path

Set the WebSocket path to be blank. For some charge points the path isn’t auto appended by a “/” in. For such cases the path needs to be a/

6. Troubleshooting for steps 3-5.

If you can’t set the OCPP server URL or Port Number, here are some things you can try:

  • Serial number means the actual serial number of the charge point and not “SerialNumber”
  • If in doubt about the path, the manufacturer should be able to confirm the correct format.

Some manufacturers won’t have separate fields for path, port and/or WebSocket type. In that case, path or port is determined by the URL. It should look like one of the:
ocpp.monta.app
wss://ocpp.monta.app
wss://ocpp.monta.app/
wss://ocpp.monta.app/SerialNumber
wss://ocpp.monta.app:443
wss://ocpp.monta.app:443/
wss://ocpp.monta.app:443/SerialNumber

7. Add a certificate (depends on model)

For some charge point models, you will have the option to add/select a certificate.
If you’re able to select it, but not upload, there should be a certificate called “Amazon Root CA 1”.

If you have the option to upload, but not select, upload this certificate.

8. Identify the serial number / Chargebox ID

The terminology will vary from brand to brand, but the most used terminology is ChargeBox ID.

This field should by default be the serial number of the charge point. Note down what it says in this field, as this is what you need to input in the serial number field when integrating to Monta.

9. Save and Apply the Settings

Save the changes and apply the new settings. This step may involve restarting the charge point or the network services to apply the new configuration.

10. Verify the connection

Once the configuration is applied, add the charge point to Monta. If the integration fails because the charge point is “offline”, please refer to the troubleshooting section.

Example Configuration

Here is an example of how your configuration settings might look:

  • OCPP Server URL:wss://ocpp.monta.app
  • Port: 443
  • WebSocket Path: /

Troubleshooting

If the charge point fails to connect to the Monta OCPP server:

  • Double-check the URL, Port, and Path: Ensure there are no typos in the URL (ocpp.monta.app), port (443), path (blank) and WebSocket type (wss).
  • Network Issues: Verify that the charge point has internet access and that no firewall is blocking the connection to the Monta server.
  • Charge Point Logs: Check the charge point’s diagnostics logs for any error messages that might provide clues about the connection issue.
  • Firmware Update: Ensure that your charge point’s firmware is up to date. Sometimes, firmware updates include important fixes for connectivity issues.
  • Chargebox ID/Serial number: Ensure the serial number/chargebox ID matches what you’re inputting in Monta when integrating.

Connecting via Websocket instead of WebSocket Secure.

  • If the charge point in question, can’t use wss, the same steps apply, except the url would be ws://ocpp.monta.app and the port would be 80

Support

For additional assistance, consult your charge point’s user manual or contact the manufacturer’s support team. If the issue persists, you can also reach out to Monta support for further guidance.
