Monta joins ChargeUK to accelerate the UK’s move to EVs

Published: 26 August, 2025

Monta has officially joined ChargeUK, the UK’s national trade association for the EV charging industry, strengthening Monta’s commitment to expanding EV charging access and reliability across the UK. Monta joins other major industry stakeholders, including; Gridserve, Kempower, Source EV, Alpitronic and Urban Fox.

The UK continues its transition to battery-powered vehicles and is moving away from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. Figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) showed that registrations of new petrol-powered vehicles in June 2025 declined by 4.2% and diesel-powered vehicle registrations remained flat (+0.2%) – meaning their combined share of the market is now just over half (51.6%). The total EV registrations in June 2025 (92,571) achieved a 48.5% market share.

To support the UK transition to EVs, the UK government released figures confirming that approximately 84,000 charge points were installed across the country as of August 2025. This progress suggests the UK is on track to meet the Department for Transport’s target of at least 300,000 public charge points by 2030.

With Monta becoming an Associate Member of ChargeUK, it is strengthening its commitment to expanding EV charging access and reliability across the UK. It also positions them alongside other major industry stakeholders such as Gridserve, Kempower, Source EV, Alpitronic, and Urban Fox, who play a role in influencing UK EV policy and infrastructure development.

Commenting on the membership, Jon Evans, Head of Market, UK & Ireland at Monta, said:

“With less than five years until the 2030 deadline, the UK EV sector is at a pivotal moment. Being part of ChargeUK will allow Monta to collaborate with other members to help shape policy, unlock more investment and expand access to quality EV charging as we look to continually improve the UK’s EV charging infrastructure.”

Since its foundation in April 2023, ChargeUK has more than doubled its membership, including major organisations such as Tesla, Ionity, BP Pulse, Shell Recharge and TotalEnergies.

Working with the UK government and stakeholders, ChargeUK’s mission is to shape the policies and regulations needed to enable the transition to EVs through investment and standard-setting.

“Having Monta onboard is yet another example of the desire within the EV industry to come together and support the transition to EVs by ensuring that convenient and affordable charging is rolled out at pace. By publicly committing to invest over £6 billion by 2030, ChargeUK members are delivering and operating world-class charging infrastructure, creating jobs, supporting economic growth, and powering the UK’s switch to electric vehicles.” Vicky Reid, CEO of Charge UK

As an Associate Member of ChargeUK, Monta is championing open, interoperable, and intelligent charging systems, sharing its technical expertise and insights to inform policy and best practices. Monta already operates a growing EV charging platform across Europe, and is trusted by over half a million users. Now, it hopes to support UK initiatives and legislative action that fast-track EV infrastructure deployment, while collaborating with other members to set reliability standards and improve the charging experience for users.

“The UK is certainly heading in the right direction when it comes to EV adoption; however, there is still a lot of work to be done. Increasing the rollout of charge point hardware is vital, but the real battle lies in the invisible layer – the software that connects, manages and optimises charging. Without a scalable, data-led software backbone, the EV infrastructure won’t keep up with the rising demand. That’s why being part of trade associations like ChargeEV truly matters. Collectively, we can understand the challenges EV drivers face and work towards how we future-proof the EV transition, not just for today’s EV drivers, but for the millions to come.” Jon Evans concludes.
