The company arrives in Italy to contribute to the country's success in the transition towards EV and decarbonisation
Monta wants to become the market leader
Copenhagen, Feb 5th 2025 - Monta, a leading European software company in the electric vehicle (EV) charging industry, has announced the launch of its operations in Italy. The company, which recently expanded to the US, is revolutionising the EV sector across Europe.
Founded in Denmark, Monta began its journey in December 2020. In just four years it has expanded to 32 European countries and in the US. Monta has over 300 employees. It also has more than 200,000 users, 660 partners, 190,000 charging points under supervision. Since its founding, the company has raised a total of €130 million from venture capital firms.
Though EVs account for only 1% of vehicles on the road, the Italian market showed strong growth, up 38% from 345 in 2022 to 475k vehicles in 2023, according to professional association Motus-E. In the next 5 years 43% of Italians plan to buy an EV.
From an infrastructure perspective, Italy had 60,339 public charging points at the end of September 2024, a 27.7% growth in public charging points compared to the previous year. The country is now at 5th place in the EU for the number of public charge points. In this context, Italy sits at the 12th position in EU in terms of charge points per 100k inhabitants·, with a strong rise in 2023, where it ranks number two in Europe for charge point installed for every 100 BEVs.
“There is huge national potential for EV deployment in Italy, which is yet to be unlocked, says Casper Rasmussen, CEO and co-founder of Monta. Our mission is to contribute to it. Infrastructure growth is matching Italians eagerness to transition to e-mobility. That's why we strive to fully digitalize the EV ecosystem, addressing the industry's current challenges while paving the way for a more sustainable future.”
Monta is coming to Italy to become the market leader, both here and in Europe as a whole, contributing to the successful transition to electric vehicles and decarbonisation.
What does Monta offer?
The Danish company offers an all-in-one electric vehicle charging platform that simplifies and streamlines the deployment, use, and management of EV charging infrastructure:
- Companies can manage the charging of their EVs from the office, reimburse employees who charge their EVs at home, and manage their own EV fleet.
- Charging point operators can use the platform to manage thousands of public, semi-public, or private charging points. The Monta charging point management system is the only one that offers such a wide range of functionalities and can be used with more than 660 different charging point models. It is currently the most stable and open system on the market.
- Monta offers drivers the ability to remotely control charging based on their individual needs. They can also use the app to charge their vehicles at home and on the move, from a choice of 600.000 charge points across Europe and 50.000 in Italy. They can even ensure that the energy is green or cost-effective at the time of charging.
- Individuals or companies with charging stations will have the possibility to make them available on the app and, in this way, earn annual revenue of up to 8.3k euros.
Today, finding an EV charging station remains an obstacle for most drivers as the management of charging points is still very complex, both for the operators and for the various companies and institutions. "We’ve recognized that addressing this issue long-term requires collaboration between private companies, EV owners, and charging point manufacturers. Our platform serves as a unifying solution, bringing all these stakeholders together to directly confront the challenge.," says Casper Rasmussen.
Federico Danielsen, Monta's Enterprise Sales Director for Italy, will lead the company's growth in the country. "I’m excited to contribute to the country’s sustainable development through Monta’s implementation," Federico shares. "Our aim is to become a key player in advancing Italy’s electric mobility ecosystem, focusing on our solutions for managing charging points and making EV charging more accessible. Reducing CO2 emissions and minimizing environmental impact are crucial aspects of driving change and meeting the challenges of the energy transition," he concludes.
