How do I use Locally Managed Load Management?

How to set up a locally managed Dynamic Load Management configuration using Easee charge points and a Perific external meter, where Monta sends available power to the master charge point.

For: Charge point operators managing Easee charge points with a Perific (formerly Enegic) external meter.

This guide covers how to create a locally managed Dynamic Load Management (previously known as Load Balancing) setup with Easee charge points and a Perific external meter. In this configuration, Monta sends the available power to the master charge point of the site.

Note: With this setup you cannot create sub-groups or customise the Load Management settings of individual charge points from Monta Hub.

Preparation

Before starting in Monta, complete the following in the Easee cloud:

  • Add and connect the charge points in Easee Cloud
  • Apply Load Management on the charge points in Easee Cloud

Add and connect the charge points to Monta

Make sure all charge points are added to the same charge point site in your Monta account before proceeding.

Create a Load Management group

  1. Open the Team where your charge points are located.
  2. Select the Charge Points tab.
  3. Navigate to Load Management (the page opens in Monta Control).
  4. Click + Create.

Fill in group general information

  1. Navigate to the Configure section.
  2. Enter a name for the Load Management group.
  3. Enter the Total amps available — the amps available per phase for both charging and the building.
  4. Select a Power distribution type:
    • Equal share — power is distributed equally among all charging cars on a site.
    • First come, first served — cars are prioritised by order of starting the charge.
    • Locally managed – Easee — for Easee charge points and Perific meter setups only.

Add charge points

When adding charge points, select the same ones you have already configured in Easee Cloud.

  1. Open Charging points from the left-side menu.
  2. Click on Load Management.
  3. Select the group you want to add the charge points to.
  4. Scroll down to the Charging Stations section and click the + button.
  5. Use the search bar to find charge points by address or serial number.
  6. Select and Add the charge points:
    • Selecting a charge point automatically adds it to the Load Management group.
    • A charge point can belong to one group at a time.
    • Selecting a charge point with multiple connectors adds all connectors automatically.

Adjust the Perific meter settings

When you select Locally Managed - Easee power distribution, the meter type is automatically set to Enegic. Configure the remaining settings based on your Easee Cloud setup.

  • Placement — select whether the meter measures only the building's power usage or the building and charge points combined.
  • Dynamic buffer — the buffer calculated for your site. It should be at least as large as the highest expected increase in the building's consumption within one minute.
  • Basic charging limit (in amps) — the amount of amps supplied to the charge points if the meter loses connection with Monta and cannot report usage.

Configure and connect the Perific meter to Monta

After saving the group settings, configure the Perific (Enegic) meter attached to the charge point site. Once configured, the information is passed from the meter via Monta to the Easee charge points.
