How do I set up and use fuse protection in Monta Charge?

How to enable static or dynamic fuse protection in Monta Charge to prevent overloading your home circuit when charging your EV.

For: Home charger owners using Monta Charge.

When you charge your electric vehicle (EV) alongside other high-power appliances, your home's main fuse can quickly become overloaded — leading to tripped power, blown fuses, or costly peak demand charges in some countries.

Fuse protection in Monta monitors your household consumption and adjusts your charging speed to stay within safe limits. You can set a fixed limit with Static Fuse Protection or get the most out of your available capacity with Smart (Dynamic) Fuse Protection by connecting a measuring device.

Fuse protection modes

Smart (Dynamic) Fuse Limit

  • Requires a smart meter reader (e.g. Saveeye+, Powerfox, Stromleser) or CT clamp (e.g. SyncEV, Rolec, EN+).
  • Monitors your home's total usage in real time and dynamically adjusts charging speed, allowing the car to charge as fast as possible without risk.

Static Fuse Limit (Beta)

  • Sets a fixed maximum current (A) for your charger(s).
  • Works without a measuring device.
  • The limit must be set conservatively, which can result in slower charging than necessary.

How do I set up fuse protection?

  1. From the Chargers tab, tap the menu (⋮) in the top-right corner and select Home features.
  2. Under Linked chargers, select one or more supported chargers. Deselecting all will disable the feature.
  3. Tap Fuse protection, then Enable fuse protection.
  4. Choose your measuring device:
    • Smart meter reader — scan the QR code or enter the serial number manually, then wait for the connection confirmation.
    • CT clamp — requires professional installation. Contact a qualified installer to set up the CT clamp with your charge point.
  5. Set the fuse limit — the maximum charging current that can be shared between connected chargers.
  6. Tap Got it. Fuse protection is now active.

If Monta detects that the fuse is at risk of tripping, the system will automatically reduce charging speed and notify you. Notifications are infrequent and only sent when necessary.

Note: You can disable fuse protection while keeping the integration active — useful if you are also using the device for True Solar Charging.
