How do I check if a charge is Eichrecht compliant?
Learn what Eichrecht compliance is and how to verify a charging session using a Transparency Software — relevant for drivers charging in Germany.
Eichrecht is a German government regulation for paid charging. It ensures that users are invoiced for exactly the amount of kilowatt-hours (kWh) they charged.
For a charge to be Eichrecht compliant, the charge point hardware must be "Eichrechtkonform" — measuring and reporting charging activity correctly. The software (Monta) must also log all charge sessions so users can verify what was charged and where.
Note: Monta logging is not required for Eichrecht compliance. Some charge points comply with Eichrecht without sending data to Monta, so not all charge points on Monta are Eichrecht compliant with Monta.
What do I need before I can check?
- A completed charge performed through Monta
- The receipt for that charge
- A Transparency Software (e.g. S.A.F.E.)
Step 1: Perform a charge
After charging, your receipt includes a field called Charge signed data in the bottom-right corner. This field appears as a link.
Step 2: Download the charge data
Click the link — it opens in your browser. Copy the data and save it as a .xml file. This file contains the data needed to verify the start and end meter readings of the charge.
Step 3: Insert the data into a Transparency Software
You can download the S.A.F.E. Transparency Software from the S.A.F.E. website.
- Open the software and click File, then select Open.
- Select the .xml file you saved.
- The software displays charge data. A verified result confirms the charge is Eichrecht compliant.
- Click Details to see more information about the charge.
