How do I troubleshoot a disconnected charge point?
This article explains how to restore internet connectivity to an offline charge point, covering physical reboots, network diagnostics, and OCPP configuration checks.
Monta's services require a stable internet connection to your charge point. Frequent disconnections or an offline state will prevent charging from working reliably.
If Monta Charge shows your charge point as Disconnected, it has lost its local internet connection. A remote reboot from Monta will not work — you need to troubleshoot the connection directly.
1. Physically reboot the charge point
Perform a hard reboot
Unplug the charge point from its power source for approximately 1 minute, then plug it back in.
Wait 5 minutes
After rebooting, wait up to 5 minutes. If the charge point connects to the internet and is integrated correctly with Monta, it will automatically change to Available in Monta Charge.
2. Check your network settings
WiFi connection
If your charge point connects via WiFi:
- If your charge point supports a SIM card, switch to cellular — WiFi is generally less stable for charge points due to distance from the router.
- Place the charge point close to the router and remove any obstructions (walls, doors, gates) that may reduce signal strength.
- Check the router frequency. Some charge points require a 2.4 GHz connection instead of 5 GHz.
SIM card connection
If your charge point uses a SIM card:
- Check the reception signal at the charge point location. If possible, move the charge point to a position with a stronger signal.
- If the signal is unstable, consider purchasing a signal extender device.
- If the signal cannot be improved, try a SIM card from a different provider. SIM cards are also available in the Monta shop.
3. Check charge point configuration
Firmware update
Check if a firmware update is available for the charge point. Some charge points can be updated directly from Monta Hub. Otherwise, update via the charge point's native app or online portal.
OCPP configuration
Review the installation guide for your charge point brand to confirm the OCPP settings are correct. Incorrect OCPP configuration will prevent the charge point from connecting to Monta.
Only make changes to OCPP settings if you are experienced with charge point configuration. If needed, contact a qualified installer or electrician.
