How do I create a dynamic price for charging?
How to set up dynamic (spot price) pricing for EV drivers in Monta, including configuring spot pricing, advanced settings, additional kWh fees, and related fees and tariffs.
Dynamic pricing lets you sell electricity at the actual market price as it changes throughout the day. The price is set at the moment the driver starts a charge. Dynamic pricing is built on top of Spot price and can be applied to public, member, sponsored, and cost price groups.
Step 1 — Select spot pricing
- Open the Price Groups tab in the team.
- Create a new or edit an existing price group.
- Select the Spot price tab and give the group a name.
- Specify a fallback price — Monta uses this if spot price data is unavailable.
- Select whether to add VAT (value-added tax) on top of the price.
- Review the price group calculation.
Step 2 — Advanced spot price settings (optional)
Toggle on to access advanced settings that let you customise the dynamic price based on your electricity contract.
- Percentage of price which is variable — if your electricity price combines a fixed component and a spot component, specify what percentage is spot price and add the fixed amount in the next field.
- Min and max kWh — set the lowest and highest price per kWh the driver should pay. If the spot price falls outside these limits, Monta uses the rates you enter here.
Step 3 — Additional pricing per kWh (optional)
Add any additional charges from your electricity bill here. The amount can be set per kWh or as a percentage. Review the final price calculation on the right to see how the total is affected.
Additional fees and tariffs
You can add further fees on top of the dynamic price:
- Add or create a custom hourly tariff to set time-based rates.
- Add additional charging fees that apply at different points during the charge.
