In this guide

This guide describes how to set up Monta Charge, if you are an EV driver, who mostly charges on the go. All the setups and settings are available in Monta Charge.

After you create your profile, you can follow the setup steps in any order, based on your needs. You are free to jump to step 7 and start charging straight away!

Many of the steps are optional, but we recommend following them, as described in this guide, in order to get the smoothest charging experience on the road.

1. Create a Monta account

First thing to do is to create a Monta account.

You will need Monta Charge, available on Google Play Store and App Store.

You can create an account, using email, a phone number or any of the listed options on the screen.

Whatever credential you select will be your login method from now on. Please note that Monta does not save your password.

2. Fill out your Monta profile

We strongly recommend to fill out your Monta profile information. You can do this in the Settings section, under Profile.

Adding both your phone number and your email will guarantee that you always have a method to login and you will not accidentally create a second Monta account. Furthermore, you can receive charging receipts on your email.

You can also customize the type of emails you receive from Monta, so you stay informed.

3. Add and integrate your car

The best way to set up a charge is to let the car decide how much charge is needed!

That is why we recommend to add your car to your Monta profile. This will give us information, such as battery capacity, which is used in calculating SmartCharge and other charging sessions.

If you want to see the State of Charge (SoC) of your car and automatically decide charging amount, then you should also integrate your car with Monta. Integration of the car is possible, due to Monta’s collaboration with Enode. If you want to see what features your car model can share via integration, you can check here.

4. Add a payment method

When you are on the road charging, you will need to input a payment method, to cover the charge.

Monta uses it’s own Wallet system. This means that your account has a virtual Monta Wallet and the owner of the charge points you are using also has a Wallet, where the funds go.

You do not have to refill your Monta Wallet before you start a charge.

You can add a bank card as a payment method, which you can select every time your charge.

Alternatively, when you are ready to start a charge, you will also see the option to pay with Apple / Google Pay or Mobile Pay / Vipps.

Whatever payment method you select, the funds for the charge will go through your Monta Wallet and go to the charge point’s owner Wallet.

5. Add a charge key

A convenient way to start a charge is using charge keys. You can order a charge key from Monta, or you can also just pair a different charge key, as long as it has an id number with 8, 14, 16 or 20 characters.

When you add a charge key to your Monta Wallet, it becomes an extension of your virtual Monta Wallet and therefore, you will pay via Monta.

Just make sure that you have enough funds before you try to charge and that the charge point is able to start by RFID.

If you like using charge keys for charging on the road, we recommend to set up an Auto Refill of your personal Monta Wallet. That way, any time the Wallet is about to go below 0, it will be automatically refilled from your bank card. That will guarantee that you always have enough funds to start a charge.

6. Find a charge point on Monta Map

Now that you have added your car and set your payment method, you are ready to charge!

The easiest way to find a charge point is to navigate to the Map tab of the navigation bar. You can see if there is a charge point around your current location or use the search bar to see the available charge points on specific address.

You can also use the filter function on the Monta Map to find specific types of charge points. You can search for charge points that have a cable, you can limit the max price per kWh, select the speed of charging and others!

7. Start a charge!

You have everything set up and you are at the charge point. It is time to start a charge! Here is a guide, which illustrates all methods for starting a charge on a Public charge point!

Start a charge via Monta Charge

Using the Monta Charge to start the charge has many advantages.

You can see the price for kWh, any charging fees put by the charge point owner, as well as how much money Monta will reserve for the charge. Please note that this is not necessarily the final amount you will pay. You will pay only for actual kWh use and / or any charging fees.

Open a charge point in the Monta Charge, adjust the charging amount, select a payment method and swipe to start charging!

Use a QR sticker

Scanning a QR sticker is a great way to initiate charging, without the need to find the charge point in the Monta Charge. Even if you do not have a Monta account, just point your phone at the QR code and the charge point will load on your screen, where you can initiate the charge!

Use a charge key

If you have added a charge key to your Monta Wallet, that is the fastest, app free way to start charging! Just plug in your car and scan the charge key and the charge will begin!

8. Troubleshooting and support

If you experience any hick-ups during your set up or while charging on the go, we can recommend these troubleshooting guides:

If you need to contact Monta Support, you can do that by starting a chat in the Monta Charge or creating a ticket at support.monta.com

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to integrate my car with Monta?

You don’t have to integrate your car, if you do not wish to do so.

The integration can provide the Monta system with information about your car, such as SoC (State of Charge), Charging rate, Scheduling, etc. This depends on the integration of the car. You can see which features are supported by your car model here.

The advantage of integrating your car is that the Monta system will automatically know how much your car needs to charge and how fast it can charge. This is important information when you want to start a charge. We recommend to at least add your car your Monta account, as it will provide us with the battery capacity of the car, which is also useful information when starting a charge.

How much does Monta cost?

Monta offers various services, priced differently.

Monta Charge is free to download and use. For example, the app can be used for managing the charging on your personal charge point at home or to charge on the road on Public charge points. When Roaming with Monta, as an EV driver, you only pay for the price of the charge.

If you want to share your charge point with other EV drivers, there is a Monta transaction fee. Monta has several plans, which include specific features and services. In order to find out which plan best suits your needs, we recommend to check out the Monta pricing page.
