This guide explains how you can set up your workplace in the Monta platform, so your employees and guests are ready to charge!
Whether you have purchased Monta directly, or you are being set up by a service provider, this guide will is a useful read for you. We will go through all the steps, which are needed for you to get started. If your Workplace charging has already been set up by a service provider, it is still a great idea to get familiar with the basic set up actions in Monta.
Please note that the guide below assumes that you already have charge points installed, connected to power and internet.
1. Intro to Monta concepts
In the Monta universe, everything is tied by the central entity of Team. Your Workplace parking lot is represented as a Team in Monta. In the Team, you can:
- Add and connect your charge points
- Create Price Groups for your employees and guests to pay when charging on these charge points
- Invite employees to charge on the workplace charge points
- Manage a virtual Team Wallet, where all payments and transactions go
- Control the charge point access to workplace guests and other EV drivers
2. Find and fill out your Team information
As your workplace is represented by a Team, you first need to make sure you have one in Monta.
- If you are using a Trial account, then your account will already have a Team created.
- If you purchased Monta via a service provider, they should already have created a Team for you.
You can find the Team from the “Team” section of the side menu in Monta Hub.
Make sure that your company information is correctly set up from the Team Settings.
It is important to make sure this information is correct, because it will be used for issuing receipts when employees and guests charge on the workplace charge points.
3. Connect your charge point(s) to Monta
Now that you have the Team, the next step is to connect your charge points to your Monta account. You can check if Monta supports your charge point here. There are 3 steps in connecting a charge point:
1. Physical installation
The physical installation includes connecting the charge point to electricity and establishing an internet connection. That needs to be performed by a certified installer.
2. Integration with Monta
Integrating the charge point to Monta means to point the unit to Monta’s backend. This is also performed by a certified installer. Here is a list of guides, where you can find your charge point brand and model to send to the installer, who is going to be performing the integration.
For part of the process, you have the option to book an appointment with Monta’s Site Enablement team, who can provide guidance and troubleshooting to the installer, during the integration.
3. Pairing to the Team
To add and connect one or more charge points, follow this guide here.
In this process, you need to take into consideration:
- Utilization – you can put up a charge point just for testing purposes. Then, you can leave the charge point as inactive. If you want to use all charge point features, including paid charging, then you need to toggle on Active.
- Availability – you can make the charge point available only to your workplace employees (Private) or to all other EV drivers (Public).
- Visibility – you can decide who can see your charge point. If your charge point is Public, you have the option to make it visible on the Monta Map, so other EV drivers can find it.
4. Create and apply price groups
Creating Price Groups allows you to set different prices for EV drivers using your charge points. This way, you can give your employees one price to charge on the parking lot charge points and a different price for workplace guests and other EV drivers.
For employees, we recommend to invite them to the Team (see next step) and to create a Member Price Group. After you create the price group, you need to apply it to the employees and they will always pay that price, even if you set the charge point to Public visibility.
For workplace guests to be able to charge, you should set the charge point to Public visibility and set a Public price group to the charge point(s).
5. Invite employees to the Team
Now that you have the Team, the charge points and pricing set, it is time to invite your employees to join the Team. The purpose of this is to give charging access to the employees, as well as the ability to set a specific price for charging.
You can see the process of inviting users to the Team here.
If the employees already have a Monta account, we recommend method #3: Sharing a Join Code. Then, the employees just need to use the join code in Monta Charge. To minimize the admin work, you can also enable to automatically accept new requests to join the Team, by toggling in “Auto accept join requests”.
If the employees do not have a Monta account yet, you can invite them with method #1, by entering their email or phone number. The employee will receive an invite to download Monta Charge and create an account.
6. How can your employees and guests charge
Employee charging
Once the employees join the Team, they will have access to all charge points in that Team and they can start a charge, using Monta Charge. Employees can also add a charge key to their personal Monta Wallet and use it to start a charge.
Guest charging
If you frequently have workplace visitors and you want to offer them the option to charge their EVs, you should first make at least one of your parking lot charge points Public. This will give access to the guest to charge and pay for the electricity.
We recommend to purchase and connect QR stickers to the charge point. This will allow the guests to access your charge point, even if they do not have a Monta account. They just need to scan the sticker and they will be able to regulate the kWh to charge, input a payment card and even their email, if they want to receive a receipt.
7. Managing funds and payments
Monta uses it’s own Wallet system. Your workplace is represented by a Team, which has a virtual Team Wallet. Your employees and guests, who create a Monta account, also have their Personal Monta Wallet
Every payment for charging on your charge point will go into your virtual Team Wallet. This is also where you pay for services provided by Monta or a solution provider.
You can deposit funds to your Wallet to cover your operational costs and you can also withdraw your earnings to our workplace’s bank account.
If you have Business or Enterprise Monta plan, and your company is VAT registered, you can request to be invoiced by Monta and handle your billing that way. When you are invoiced by Monta, you can export a csv file with all the Wallet transactions throughout the month.
You are also able to filter and export your Wallet transactions at any point from Monta Hub.
8. Test your setup
Amazing work! You are good to go now!
We recommend to test your setup, by performing a few charges on your charge points. Once you have seen how the system works, you can follow up with more advanced setups – we have included a few links bellow.
Always feel free to browse our Help Center for finding detailed how-to guides and troubleshooting advice.

9. Advanced section
Troubleshooting a disconnected charge point
As charge points rely on internet connection to stay connected to Monta, sometimes they can go into a “Disconnected” state. If that happens, you will not be able to charge on the charge point, but there are many ways, in which you can troubleshoot connectivity issues. Here is a guide that can help with that.
Sponsored charging at home
If you have a Business or Enterprise Monta plan, you can offer reimbursement for employees who charge the company car at their private charge point. Monta’s Sponsored charging at home solution allows you to instantly transfer funds to your employee’s Monta Wallet after they have charged the company car at their home.
