In this guide

This guide describes how to set up Monta Charge, if you are an EV driver, who owns a charge point and wants to set it up at home. All the setups and settings are available in Monta Charge.

You are free to follow the steps in whatever order suits your needs. You can jump straight to step 4 and connect your charge point to Monta. What we recommend is to follow the steps, in the order described in this guide, so you get the smoothest experience.

1. Create a Monta account

To get started, begin by setting up your Monta account.

Download Monta Charge, which can be found on both the Google Play Store and the App Store.

Then, you can create your account using your email address, phone number, or any of the options listed on the screen.

Please keep in mind that the login method you choose becomes a credential for accessing Monta, and it’s important to note that Monta does not store your password for security purposes.

2. Fill out your profile

We recommend you to complete your Monta profile details, which can be done in the Settings section, specifically under Profile.

Including both your phone number and email ensures you always have a reliable means of logging in. Also, you can avoid accidentally making a second Monta account. If you select your Country & Area, that will make the SmartCharge calculation more accurate and will help with setting up the cost of charging.

You have the option to personalize the types of emails you receive from Monta to ensure you stay updated according to your preferences.

3. Add and integrate car

The easiest way to manage your charging is to let your car determine its charging needs!

That’s why we strongly recommend adding your car to your Monta profile. By doing so, you provide us with important data, like battery capacity, which is used to calculate SmartCharge and other charging sessions.

If you’d like to view your car’s State of Charge (SoC) and enable automatic charging decisions, consider integrating your car with Monta. This integration is made possible through Monta’s partnership with Enode. To discover the specific features your car model can offer via integration, you can find more information here.

4. Add and connect your charge point

When you connect your charge point to Monta, this means that you will need to use Monta Charge to operate the charging, such starting, stopping or scheduling a charge.

The process to connect a charge point to Monta consists of 3 steps: Physical installation, Integration with Monta and pairing to your Monta account.

  1. Physical installation must be performed by a certified installer, who will connect the charge point to electricity and to the internet.
  2. Integration should also be performed by an installer, who will point the charge point to Monta’s backend. Here is a list of guides, where you can find your charge point brand and how it needs to be configured. If your installer needs help with the integration process, they can book a consultation with Monta’s Site Enablement Team, who can lead them through the steps.
  3. Pairing the charge point happens when you add the charge point in Monta Charge and you verify the connection. Here is a guide on how to do that.

5. Add electricity cost for your charge point

Using Monta, you can monitor the cost of electricity for charging on your own charge point. Your electricity cost input is used in:

  1. Insights: Track the cost of charging on your charge point.
  2. SmartCharge: Initiate a charge based on your electricity cost.
  3. Sponsored charging: If your employer is sponsoring the charging of a company car at your private charge point, you can share your electricity cost with them.

Here is guide on how you can set up your electricity cost in Monta Charge.

6. Perform a charge

Once you have connected your charge point to Monta, you are ready to start charging!

When you open your charge point in Monta Charge, you will see different types of charges you can start. Please note that some of the charge types require a setup in Monta Charge. You can see more in the above linked guide.

Charge now allows you to start charging on demand with a swipe in Monta Charge.

Scheduled charge gives you the option to set a specific time, when you want your car to start charging.

AutoStart will enable your charge point to start the charge as soon as the car cable is plugged in.

SmartCharge is a charge, set up by Monta’s algorithm, which takes into consideration your charging preferences, such as electricity cost, CO2 emissions and use of renewable energy.

If you have already integrated your car with Monta, the system will get a state of charge and this will determine the needed amount for charging.

Just pick a charge type and give it a try!

7. Troubleshooting and support

If you encounter any issues while setting up or charging on your charge point, we have some helpful troubleshooting guides to suggest:

If you need to contact Monta Support, you can do that by starting a chat in the Monta Charge or creating a ticket at support.monta.com

We wish you happy charging!

8. Advanced section

If you have performed a few charges and you need ready to try out other Monta features, we recommend the following:

Invite friends and family to charge

You can share your charge point with your friends and your family! All you need to do is invite them via Monta Charge.

If they already have an account, we recommend to invite them using the phone number or email they have used. If they do not have an account yet, they will receive an invitation to create an account.

Set up Virtual Solar charge

If you have solar panels, you can use them to power your charging via Monta’s Virtual Solar Charge feature, available in Monta Charge. Here is guide on how you create the setup.

Apply for tax refund (Denmark)

Charge point owners in Denmark can also apply for a tax refund subscription via Monta Charge. In the charge point settings, you can find the Monta Marketplace, which will show you all available subscriptions for your charge point brand.

Please note that Monta is not a tax refund provider and the tax refund subscription is a contract you sign with a 3rd party provider.

Get sponsored home charging by your employer

If you are charging a company car at your private charge point at home, your employer can compensate your charging cost via Monta. Based on the settings, every time you charge, you will receive a reimbursement in your Monta Wallet, which you can withdraw to your bank account.

Here is the whole set up and how it works for both you and your employer.
