How to use SolarCharge

SolarCharge is a feature that enables private charge point owners, who have solar panels to use the solar panels to power their charge.

You can read more about the set up here. The way you set up SolarCharge depends on your charge points, panels and meter setup.

Find SolarCharge in Monta Charge

Open the settings of your charge point
Select Home Integrations
Select SolarCharge

Saveeye integration

Make sure the your Saveeye meter is already registered in your Saveeye account and connect to Wi-Fi.

Select Saveeye
Either scan a QR code or enter the serial number manually
Wait for a success message

Set up Solar Forecast

If Solar Forecast is available to you, you can set it up, based on the positioning of your panels.

Select Solar Forecast
Configure the position of your solar panels
- Set the Peak Output in kW
- Select the angle of declination in degrees
- Set the Azimuth in degrees
See the calculated kW output and click to calibrate it if needed.
- If you have a display that shows you your current kW output, you can insert the number.
Save the inputs and you are done!

Charge with SolarCharge

You can currently use SolarCharge with Charge Now. The charge amount will be determined by the output of you solar panels and your car.

Go to Chargers
Open the charge point you have set up with SolarCharge
Select Charge now
Toggle on SolarCharge
Slide to start charging right now

Frequently asked questions

Why is my SolarCharge paused, if there is sun?

Charge points and cars require a minimum charging effect (speed). If the power produced by your solar panels is not sufficient to sustain a charge, then the charge will be paused until the charging effect is increased to the required level.

This minimum level depends on whether you have a single or 3 phase charger. For single phase chargers on 230 V, the required solar power production is 1.4 kW. On 3 phases, the minimum power required is 4.2 kW.

Can I SmartCharge or Scheduled charge with solar power?

Today, SolarCharge is only available with Charge Now. Users will have to choose whether they are charging from their own, current solar energy or with energy from the electricity grid.

Why can’t I see the option to SolarCharge on my charge point?

Your charge point will not be visible if it is not compatible with SolarCharging, or if you are not the owner or administrator of the charge point. Go into the charge point settings to modify these access settings if needed.

If you own multiple charge points, you must set up Virtual SolarCharge on each charge point, individually.

When will the charging stop?

A charge now SolarCharge will stop the charge either when the car is full. If the sun goes down, the charge is paused, until the sun is back up.

Can I create a price group with my solar energy?

No, solar charging is only meant to provide free, fully renewable energy to the owner of a charge point and solar panels, and other admins of the charge point.
