How to start a charge at home

Do you have a charge point at home? This is how you can set up and start charging.

There are many ways you can customize your charge at home with Monta! Here are the different ways you can start and control your charging on your personal charge point.

Before you can start charging you need to do is to add and connect your charge point to your Monta account. To do so, please check out the collection of integration guides we have available.

When your charge point is connected, you will see it under navigation Chargers as Available.

If you want to set up automated charging, you need to create a Charging rule.

Charge now

  1. Click to open the charge point
  2. Select the Charge now tab
  3. Select the car you are charging (optional)
    • If you have added your car, this will tell our system what is the battery capacity of your car
    • If you have also integrated your car, this will give the system a state of charge
  4. Select the amount you are charging (optional)
    • You can select to charge a fixed amount of kWh, Continuous charging or by percentage
    • Your car is always able to stop the charge if the battery limit in the car settings is reached
  5. Swipe to start charging!

Scheduled charge

  1. Click to open the charge point
  2. Select the Scheduled charge tab
  3. Select the car you are charging (optional)
    • If you have added your car, this will tell our system what is the battery capacity of your car
    • If you have also integrated your car, this will give the system a state of charge
  4. Select the time frame for charging
    • Set the start and stop time for the charge
    • Your car is always able to stop the charge if the battery limit in the car settings is reached
  5. Swipe to set the scheduled charge
    • The charge will start at the set start time, even if you plug the car before that

SmartCharge

You can set up to charge when the electricity price is cheapest, or using low CO2 or renewable energies.

Before you you can set up a SmartCharge, you first need to complete a quick set up to match your charging needs. It following steps, you will learn how to set a SmartCharge charging session.

  1. Click to open the charge point
  2. Select the SmartCharge tab
  3. Select the car you are charging (optional)
  4. Select the time frame for charging
    • Select when you want the car to be ready for pickup
    • You set a Delayed start, which will delay the start of the charge after that time point
    • Your car is always able to stop the charge if the battery limit in the car settings is reached
  5. You can also adjust your SmartCharge preferences for the charge
  6. Slide to set up the SmartCharge session
    • The charge will start according to the Monta's SmartCharge algorithm calculation, even if you plug the car before that

Frequently asked questions

What is Continuous charging?

Continuous charging means that the charge will continue, until the car stops the charge or you manually stop it.


Can I control the charging from another app?

No, once you have connected the charge point to Monta, we become the operator of the charge point.


Difference between Scheduled charge and SmartCharge

Both SmartCharge and Scheduled charging allows you to perform a charge in a specific time window.

SmartCharge uses your SmartCharge preferences, as well as the required charge amount (kWh needed to charge your car), in order to calculate the most suitable time for your charge to begin and end.

Scheduled charge should be used when you want to charge your car in an exact time window. Monta will send a start command at the beginning of the time window. The charge will stop either when your car signals it is full or by Monta sending a stop signal at the end time.
