What are alerts?

Alerts are a flexible, scalable way to manage notifications across your teams, sites, and charge points. Instead of setting up alerts one-by-one for every entity, you create alert groups – reusable templates that define exactly which events trigger notifications, how urgent those notifications are, and who receives them, in addition to the display in Hub.

Each alert group contains:

  • Alert Types: The specific events you can be notified about e.g. charge point disconnections, security events, etc.
  • Settings per Alert Type: Toggling that alert type on/off for the group, priority and recipients of the alert.

Note: Creating an alert group does not activate it, an alert group must be applied to either a team or site for you to start receiving alerts.

When applied to:

  • A team – the alert settings cover that team and all sites/charge points within iut
  • A site – the alert settings cover all charge points in that site.

This setup allows you to edit hundreds of entities by adjusting just one group. Making it fast and easy to rollout and keep up to date.

Default alert groups

Monta includes two default groups, that cannot be deleted.

  • Default: Includes critical alerts like security breaches, error states, or failing charges. This group includes the following alerts:
    • Charge point received a critical security event
    • Charge point in error for a while
    • Charge point not working
    • Charge point had 3 failing charges last 1h
    • Invalid meter source for signed data.
  • Muted: Silences all notifications for selected Teams or sites.

You can create multiple additional alert groups and assign recipients to tailor notifications to your needs.

Create an alert group

Here is how to create your own alert group:

  1. Go to Alert settings in Monta Hub.
  2. Click + New to start a new group.
  3. Enter the Alert group name and add a description (editable later via the Info tab).
  4. Click Create.
  5. Customize your alert group:
    • Select the specific incident(s) to monitor (hover for descriptions). You can select multiple and edit them in bulk.
    • Using the action bar, you can:
      • turn alerts on or off
      • assign a priority: High, Medium, or Low
      • add or remove recipients for notifications
  6. Click Save to complete your configuration.

Apply an alert group on a charging site

Please note that the Default alert group is always applied first at the charging site. To change the alert group applied to a charging site, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to the relevant Team
  2. Click on Charge Points
  3. Switch to the Charging sites tab
  4. Select the site where you would like to set up the alert group
  5. Go to Details & Settings
  6. Scroll down, and you will see a section Incident alert settings
  7. Click on the three dots and click Change alert group
  8. Select the alert group that you would like to apply
  9. Click Apply, and you’re all set! The charging site will now have alerts applied, as indicated in the selected alert group.

Apply an alert group on a Team

To apply an alert group to a team level, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the relevant Team
  2. Go to Settings
  3. Scroll down and find the Incident alert settings section
  4. Click on the three dots and click Change alert group
  5. Select the alert group that you would like to apply.
  6. Click Apply, and you’re all set! The charge points on this Team will now have alerts applied, as indicated in the selected alert group.

Please note that the team alert group does not override charging site alert settings.

View reports

Setting up an alert group on a site or team level allows each group to generate alerts based on specific charge point reports.

You can view the alerted reports in the Overview tab of a team. If you would like a more detailed look at the reports created, simply click the “See all report activity” button.

To view alerts flagged for a specific charge point, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Team
  2. Go to the Charge points tab
  3. Click on the number in the Alerts column of the specific row for the charge point.
  4. You can view the alerts flagged for that charge point and navigate through both resolved and unresolved alerts.
  5. If you click on the entries here, you can view the detailed report and resolve or delete it from there.
